Gay Man Gunned Down
The sexual orientation of a Delray Beach, Florida man gunned down in his driveway is being considered a possible motive for his killing. Police have not ruled out the fact that 30-year-old Mark Harris' homosexual lifestyle may have contributed to his murder. Harris was killed Monday, May 11 around 8:30 at night as he was unloading groceries from his car parked at his 7th Avenue home.
The shooter fired more than half dozen bullets in Harris’s back at close range and police don't believe he was robbed. Harris was a manager at Best Western Hotel in Boca Raton and police say he had a clean criminal record.
"I can't think of any reason that would justify something so horrible like this," his friend said. "We are all in so much shock."
Delray Beach says it's too early to speculate this was a hate crime.
"We don't know at this point," Sgt. Russ Mager said. "It's a possibility but there's no way to say that by any means that is it."
The shady trees and tall buildings surrounding Harris’s house are making things even more difficult for police. Although many people heard the bullets, there are no immediate witnesses. Police say the suspect may have been driving a white vehicle.
