Praying for Victory
Living in the Bible Belt isn't always that fun until you find that cute choir twink and fuck the hell out of him in the rectory. Not that I've ever done that. I did notice one thing in yesterday's newspaper here in Nashville that upset me a little bit and left me quite confused.
The Tennessee Supreme Court is contemplation a state wide ban that would prevent coaches praying with their students before or after a game. The students are more than welcome to pray on their own because the state can not impead on student's rights of religion. They can however, according to the law, prevent coaches from praying with the because the coaches are paid employees of the state and are not allowed to empose religious beliefs upon students. I really want to meet the one parent or child here that had a problem with that.
Questions...comments...concerns...snide remarks? I wonder if the ACLU or the Christian Athletes Alliance will get involved. You never can miss the teams praying after every NFL game.

Well Kam let me crack my Knuckles and respond..
Disclaimer I am a Deist/Agnostic and EX-Assemblies of God Holy Roller who went to Tim Lahayes (Left Behind series) School.
Of course no one has a problem with teams praying BUT BUT what about the agnostic or atheist basketball player if the Coach is involved does he feel pressured?
What about you Kam?
You played HS Sports Team Spirit and Camaraderie is paramount. Can you imagine any of your teammates refusing to pray?
Yet that is their constitutional right!
There is a hidden agenda and having grown up in this environment I certainly know the Evangelical/Fundy Play book…
They want Jesus BACK in Public schools including Forced Prayer and indoctrination.
They LIE and Deny this but one thing I have learned from close observation.
Christians will lie with impunity to get what they want!
Just ask Homo Ralph Reed!
So I am opposed to Coaches leading prayer because they are authority figures.
Besides let the team captain do it and any atheist can abstain.
I do have a question Kam
How does God decide which team (beseeching him in prayer)he allows to win?
If one team has 6 Baptists does that trump the Catholic school?
Leading is one thing…I agree with you on that point.
But what is wrong with the coach showing his support of the team.
I’m not overly religious, but when my teammates prayed before and after games I was always there. I bowed my head and was quiet out of respect for them because they all supported me in my GLBT endeavors at school. I could always count on my guys to wear red ribbons on AIDS day and they even helped me with a Matthew Sheppard vigil at school.
They didn’t have to, but being a team means you have to support everyone. One weak link ruins an otherwise perfect chain.
As far as who wins…just like the Lord’s prayer says…”Thy will be done, in Earth as it is in Heaven”. Whoever wins wins…but I hate to lose
