Out's Most Powerful 50

coverBarney Frank was named this year's #1 most powerful LGBT person in Out magazine's 3rd Annual Power 50 list.  Frank moved up from #2 last year, because as head of the House Financial Services Committee, he will be at the center of "some of the most heated public policy battles in the coming months."  Frank has an autobiography coming out this fall called Barney Frank:  The Story of America's Only Left-Handed, Gay, Jewish Congressman.

Counting Down To New Year

iws1_430On New Year's Day, snow will fall across the Upper Midwest. Heavy snow showers can also be expected in the central and northern Rockies. Showers are likely to break out in eastern Texas, but in general, the southern tier of the nation will be free of any really bad weather during the opening moments of 2009. All bets are off after that.

There is every indication that a much colder and stormier pattern will unfold beginning next Friday and will persist into the following week.

The Silver Fox

409px-anderson_cooperThe good folks over at DListed have released a couple of images of The Silver Fox, Anderson Cooper. This is what Anderson looked liked during his high school days at Dalton.  Ain't he a lil hottie ?  Did you know that Anderson is the son of Gloria Vanderbilt, the famous New York family dynasty ? Anderson Cooper is considered to be one of the few ranking influential gay men in America although he is in a "glass closet" having never came out of the closet forthright. So, if you're one of the few remaining people in the universe who believes and wants to continue believing that Cooper is a heterosexual, you might want to skip this.

Out magazine, now the Advocate's fluffier (if that's possible) sister publication, has a column by Josh Kilmer-Purcell in its March edition that dishes on Cooper:

"When I spent a couple of weeks observing ABC's 'World New Tonight' fpr am advertising campaign a decade ago, it was common knowledge in the newsroom even then that Anderson was gay (at the time he was a news correspondent for ABC). Anderson's sexual orientation became even more apparent when one evening he introduced me in a gay bar to the man he was currently dating — most likely as an excuse to stop my drunken propositioning, but still..."

andersoncoopervintage1

Cooper refuses to say which team he plays for even though he sees no problem with asking others the same question on public television as a news reporter. Leave us your thoughts on Anderson and share your vote on our poll.

Cooper vs. Phelps (Video)

On this Sunday's 60 Minutes, Anderson Cooper has an interview with Olympic hero Michael Phelps. During the interview, Cooper challenged Phelps to a race, with a few conditions to try and even out the playing field.  Phelps had to swim underwater, with no breathing, and could only use his legs. Cooper also got to dive in while Phelps could only push off the wall. Plus, Phelps has not really been training since the games and is, for him, sort of out of shape. So who won?
