NYC Gets First Gay Cookbook ... Rainbow Cupcakes anyone?

In the mood for some gay French onion soup? How about gay linguine with autumn vegetables? These recipes and more will let you recreate popular dishes born in the kitchens of some of Brooklyn’s best-loved restaurants when they’re released as part of  “A Family Table: Recipes from Brooklyn’s Gay-owned and Gay-friendly Restaurants” on February 18.

The Brooklyn Pride organization will publish the tome with the goal of helping gay-owned eateries, reports The Brooklyn Paper, and there’ll even be a forward written by “gay-friendly Borough President [Marty] Markowitz.” Restaurants who contributed recipes include Teddy’s Bar and Grill in Williamsburg, Park Slope’s Bogota Bistro and Belleville.

No relation to Lou Rand Hogan’s “The Gay Cookbook” (1965), which the BP notes “is full of innuendo and references to the reader as ‘girlfriend.’”

Vampire Popularity Blamed On Young Women Who Want Sex With Gay Men

Gay_VampiresEsquire has an interesting theory about the success of Twilight, HBO’s True Blood, and The CW’s Vampire Diaries: “Vampires have overwhelmed pop culture because young straight women want to have sex with gay men,” Stephen Marche writes. “Not all young straight women, of course, but many, if not most, of them.” Among his support statements, the following analysis of Twilight’s Edward: “[He's] a sweet, screwed-up high school kid, and at the beginning of his relationship with Bella, she is attracted to him because he is strange, beautiful, and seemingly repulsed by her. This exact scenario happened several times in my high school between straight girls and gay guys who either hadn’t figured out they were gay or were still in the closet.” Had Marche wanted to, he also could’ve pointed out that on True Blood, telepathic Sookie can only be intimate with a man (Vampire Bill) whose lustful thoughts she cannot hear, and on Vampire Diaries, Elena knows that Stefan has been hiding who he truly is, that he’d sworn off women for quite a while, and that he cooks and journals. (Marche could also have mentioned that True Blood’s Eric gets his hair highlighted and enjoys solo candlelight baths, for that matter.) What do you think? Are, as Marche suggests, young straight women attracted to vampires because they’re dangerous — see: their ability to kill through draining or incredible sex — yet safe? Article From PopWatch

Amazon Censors Gay Books?

amazon-best-shopping-seasonHundreds of gay, lesbian, and trans books simultaneously lost their sales rankings yesterday. Bringing into question whether there is a campaign to suppress LGBT themed books? This prompted many Amazon users, authors, and purchasers of LGBT literature to contact the company. It seems many books simply about being transgender, or a college guide for LGBT students is being deemed "erotic"? Amazon has taken the rankings off of many books in "erotica" categories. The question is why are they deeming so many non-erotica LGBT based books as offensive? While they still have ratings available on such books as Playboy centerfolds which clearly is in a different category than many of the books that are being targeted.
