Boy George Banned From British Reality Show

A British court has blocked an attempt by former Culture Club singer Boy George to appear on a reality television show. The 48-year-old had hoped to appear on Channel 4's "Celebrity Big Brother" despite being on probation for assaulting a male escort. Newspaper reports say George would stand to earn tens of thousands of dollars for appearing on the show, which begins Jan. 3. Probation officers argued that allowing George to appear on the show would undermine the reputation of London's probation service and public confidence in the judicial system. George appealed the service's ban, saying probation was not meant to punish him. High Court judge David Bean dismissed George's appeal Wednesday. The pop star, whose real name is George O’Dowd. In May O’Dowd was released early, after being sentenced to fifteen months in prison for unlawfully imprisoning an escort. He only served a quarter of his time, and now he’s tagged and subject to a curfew. The Press Association reports that O’Dowd has already taken $250,000 to participate in the show, however may have to return the money.

Gavin Rossdale Outed

bushGavin Rossdale had a five-year relationship with a male pop star. The former Bush singer - who has two sons with wife Gwen Stefani and a daughter from a previous relationship - allegedly had a long romance with androgynous British singer Marilyn in the 80s.
Marilyn, 46, said: "He was the love of my life. We were together five years, but it felt like 40."
In 1995, singer Boy George - a close friend of Marilyn - alleged Gavin, 43, and Marilyn had had an affair in his autobiography Take It Like A Man but both men denied the claims. However, Marilyn - real name Peter Robinson - insists he lied in order to protect the Swallowed singer's burgeoning career. The Calling Your Name star added to In Touch Weekly magazine: "He was just becoming successful in America. I agreed to lie against every grain of my being."

Responding to Boy George's claims, Gavin previously said: "I wasn't dating Marilyn. We were, and still are, good friends. George thinks everyone is gay." Boy George - real name George O'Dowd - insisted the story was true and alleged that Gavin had begged him not to include details of his gay romance in his book. gavinGeorge recalled: "When I was writing Take It Like A Man, Bush were well on their way to rock stardom and he appeared at my house to persuade me not to include him and Marilyn. "I agreed to leave some stuff out but I wasn't prepared to lie. I don't think Marilyn has ever really got over Gavin."

Boy George Jailed

Boy George has been jailed for 15 months for falsely imprisoning a male escort in his flat in east London.

boygeorge11The singer, whose real name is George O'Dowd, denied the charge and claimed the victim, Norwegian Audun Carlsen, 29, had stolen photos from his laptop. O'Dowd, 47, admitted handcuffing him to a wall in April 2007 but said he did so in order to trace the missing property.

Judge David Radford told the former Culture Club singer he was guilty of "gratuitous violence".  O'Dowd's family and supporters reacted emotionally as the singer was handed the jail sentence at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

Judge Radford said: "Whilst I accept that Mr Carlsen's physical injuries were not serious or permanent, in my view there can be no doubt that your premeditated callous and humiliating handcuffing and detention of Mr Carlsen shocked, degraded and traumatised him.

"He was deprived of his liberty and human dignity without warning or proper explanation to him of its purpose, length or purported justification."

_45383500_006732314-1The singer, best known for 1980s hit Karma Chameleon, was also told to pay £5,000 costs. The two men first came into contact through a gay social-networking site and met up for a pornographic photo shoot at O'Dowd's Shoreditch flat, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard. O'Dowd believed Mr Carlsen stole data, including personal photographs from his laptop, during the photo shoot.

The court was told that weeks later O'Dowd invited the Norwegian back to his flat and it was then that he, with the help of a second man, chained Mr Carlsen to his bed and beat him.

'Self-destructive behaviour'

_45383338_006569691-1Mr Carlsen testified that he was manacled to the bed, but managed to escape and ran from the flat wearing only his boxer shorts, trainers and a pair of handcuffs.

During the trial the court heard that the escort sold the story of his ordeal to a Norwegian magazine for £5,500, which he said he needed to flee the UK as he was "too scared".

The singer has previous convictions for theft as a juvenile in 1977 and a drugs offence 10 years later.

He was also given community service in New York in 2006 after admitting to falsely reporting a burglary at his flat there.

Boy George, who is now a DJ, was one of the most well-known stars and recognisable faces in the 1980s. With Culture Club he notched up seven British and nine American Top 10 hits and sold more than 50 million records.

He has also struggled with drug addictions and he told the world about his personal battle in his autobiography Take It Like A Man. Earlier his barrister Adrian Waterman told the court that O'Dowd was the "antithesis of the haughty bullying star". He said: "At the heart of the matter was a descent into self-destructive behaviour at the hands of the drugs."

Following the sentencing, O'Dowd's solicitor, Steven Barker, said: "George is on the road to recovery, I sincerely hope this sentence does not knock him back."

Escort Attack: George Guilty

Norwegian Audun Carlsen, 29, said the singer beat him with a metal chain as he tried to escape from his flat after a naked photo shoot. The 46-year-old singer, who was tried under his real name of George O'Dowd, declined to give evidence in his trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court. However the jury was told he admitted to police that he handcuffed Mr Carlsen to his bed at his flat in Shoreditch, east London, on April 28 last year, while he investigated alleged tampering with his computer.

He accused Mr Carlsen of obtaining photos of himself from his laptop, taken by O'Dowd when the pair met three months earlier.

He denied punching Mr Carlsen or swinging a chain at him as the escort fled the flat and suggested the bruises Mr Carlsen sustained could have been due to the fact that he was HIV positive.

Sky's Sara Merchant, at the east London court, said: "When the foreman said guilty, Boy George's mouth dropped and his friends in the public gallery gasped. From then on he just looked pretty stony-faced. O'Dowd has been released on bail and will be sentenced on January 16.

Judge David Radford, who adjourned the case, said custody was "the more likely option". "He cut a pretty sad figure as he left court clutching a white plastic bag and he had tears in his eyes," said Merchant. "His weight has ballooned and he wasn't wearing any makeup. He was unrecognisable as that familiar 80s figure when he was in Culture Club. The whole thing was very low key."

Mr Carlsen said during the hearing that it was during a second meeting with the singer that things took a violent turn. After calling Mr Carlsen into his bedroom, O'Dowd leapt on him, wrestled him to the floor and started beating him. He told the court that he was dragged along the floor towards the bed and a manacle was put on his right hand and attached to a hook drilled in the wall. Mr Carlsen said O'Dowd produced a plastic box containing chains, sex toys and leather straps. He told the court he was then able to use the handcuffs as a tool to unscrew the hook from the wall. He ran to the door with O'Dowd pursuing him, lashing out with a metal chain, but he managed to escape and get out on to the street where he screamed for help.
