Vatican #2 Man Says Homosexuals To Blame For Church Sex Scandal

The second in command at the Vatican is coming under criticism from gay rights groups around the world after he drew a link between homosexuality and pedophilia. Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Vatican's Secretary of State, said during a news conference in Chile yesterday that homosexuality is to blame for child sex abuse by priests, not church's celibacy requirement. The Associated Press quotes Bertone as saying, "Many psychologists and psychiatrists have demonstrated that there is no relation between celibacy and pedophilia. But many others have demonstrated, I have been told recently, that there is a relation between homosexuality and pedophilia. That is true." Bertone did not give any specifics as to where he got that information. It is in direct contradiction to other studies that show pedophilia is not tied to a person's sexual orientation. Chicago has a thriving gay community and the latest data from the American Community Survey indicates 5.7% of Chicago's population is gay, according to Ryan Erickson at the Center on Halsted, considered the center of the LGBT community in Chicago. As far as Bertone's comments, Erickson said, "It was a baseless thing to say." The Movement for Homosexual Integration and Liberation in Chile condemns Bertone's assertion. The AP quotes the group's president as saying,  "This is a perverse strategy by the Vatican to shirk its own ethical and legal responsibility by making a spurious and disgusting connection." It's pointed out that one of the high-profile sex scandal cases in Chile's Roman Catholic Church involves a priest who raped girls and impregnated one of them. Bertone is in Chile to deliver a a state of Our Lady of Carmel, according to a press release from the Catholic News Agency. The statues is a gift from the Pope Benedict XVI that will travel to the various affected by the recent earthquake in Chile

British Gays Say Pope Must Resign

About 50 protesters, including members of the gay group OutRage, demonstrated outside London's Westminster Cathedral Sunday, March 28 demanding that Pope Benedict XVI resign for "covering up child sex abuse by Catholic clergy." Mainstream media outlets have reported in recent weeks that before he was pope, Benedict may have dealt with pedophile-priest cases inappropriately. "In 2001, the pope wrote to all Catholic bishops worldwide, ordering them to maintain 'papal secrecy' about sex abuse by clergy," said OutRage's Peter Tatchell. "He threatened to excommunicate anyone who spoke about it. This makes the pope personally responsible for the cover-up." In 2001, Benedict, then known as Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, was prefect of the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the successor body to the Inquisition, which is charged with rooting out doctrinal errors and heresy and meting out discipline, among other things. Under Ratzinger's leadership, the congregation excoriated gay sex as "intrinsically disordered," "objectively disordered," "a serious depravity," "against the natural moral law" and "sins gravely contrary to chastity." In 2003, Ratzinger wrote: "Legal recognition of homosexual unions or placing them on the same level as marriage would mean not only the approval of deviant behavior, with the consequence of making it a model in present-day society, but would also obscure basic values which belong to the common inheritance of humanity." The Vatican has been pushing back hard against the criticism of the pope, who did not mention the scandal in his Easter Mass.

Hater Church Says Matthew Shepard Has Been In Hell 4,178 Days Now

According to Westboro Baptist Church’s GodHatesFags.com, gay murder victim Matthew Shepard has been in Hell (as this writing) for 4, 178 days. The site informs readers that “All the candlelight vigils [and] all the acts of Congress … will not shorten his sentence by … one day, [and] will not buy him one drop of water to cool his tongue.’” It then urges readers, and of course, homosexuals, to have faith and repent. Felonious Vatican Fellows Linked to Gay Prostitution Ring

The Washington Post is reporting that one of Pope Benedict’s ushers and one of the Vatican’s choir members have been linked to a gay prostitution ring. Actually, the usher, Angelo Balducci, had already been arrested last month for corruption that had nothing to do with a prostitution ring. And it was through that unrelated investigation that Balducci, along with the other man, Ghinedu Ehiem, was implicated in charges of prostitution. According to the Post: “Excerpts of the wiretaps and police documents published in the Italian newspaper La Repubblica showed that Ehiem, 40, had been in regular contact with Balducci before Balducci's arrest last month and the subject of their conversation was gay sex,” specifically the kind that you pay for. “[A]mong the men Ehiem allegedly procured for Balducci were seminarians. In one, Balducci is quoted as asking Ehiem: ‘At what time does he have to return to the seminary?’”
“Balducci’s lawyer, Franco Coppi, one of Italy’s highest profile attorneys, told Reuters he had no comment on the newest accusations against his client, saying: ‘We have much more serious things to be concerned with right now,’ referring to the corruption charges,” reports the Post. Ehiem has already been kicked out of choir as punishment, and Balducci will not be listed in the next edition of the Vatican directory. No word on whether the two will get to walk at graduation.

Party N Play Pastor Ted Haggard Reopens For Business With A New Church

ted_haggardTed Arthur Haggard, the former pastor who ran afoul of his Denver congregation after admitting to a three-year pay-for-sex affair with male prostitute Mike Jones, will begin leading a prayer meeting in his Colorado Springs home, The Colorado Springs Gazette reported. Haggard told the paper it would be correct to call it a church. Haggard's comeback began in January with an image makeover that included an HBO documentary titled The Trials of Ted Haggard. The movie's premiere was preceded by appearances on the Oprah Winfrey Show, with wife and children in tow, and CNN's Larry King Live. During those appearances, Haggard attempted to paint himself as the victim, telling Larry King: “I think I'm still deeply wounded and scared and somewhat confused.” He also returned to Colorado Springs after years in exile. Immediately after Jones revealed their 3-year sexual association in 2006, Haggard denied being gay, saying only that he had committed “sexual immorality.” In seclusion, he underwent intensive counseling, he said. One of the four ministers who oversaw that therapy, Tim Ralph, pronounced Haggard “cured” on February 6, 2007. He said Haggard “is completely heterosexual.” In January, New Life Church in Colorado Springs, the church Haggard founded and grew into a $50 million megachurch and which ultimately asked him to leave, released details about a young male church volunteer who claims he had a sexual relationship with Haggard. Brady Boyd, who succeeded Haggard at New Life, told the Associated Press that a young man, later identified as Grant Hass, who volunteered at the church disclosed to church officials in 2006 that he had been involved with Haggard sexually for several years. Boyd said the church reached a legal settlement with the man to remain silent in exchange for payment of college tuition and counseling services. “It wasn't at all a settlement to make him be quiet or not tell his story,” Boyd told the Associated Press. “Our desire was to help him. Here was a young man who wanted to get on with his life. We considered it more compassionate assistance – certainly not hush money. I know that's what everyone will want to say because that's the most salacious thing to say, but that's not at all what it was.” On November 12, Haggard will lead his first prayer meeting since leaving New Life. It begins at 7PM in his home at 1865 Old Ranch Road. Story from: On Top Magazine, http://www.ontopmag.com

Homosexuality 'not in your DNA,' So Says Mormons

gay_dnaPeople who are attracted to members of their own sex can change, an LDS general authority said Saturday, so they shouldn't let Satan persuade them they can't. Elder Bruce C. Hafen, a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy, spoke at the 19th annual conference of Evergreen International, a nonprofit group that helps Mormons "overcome homosexual behavior" and "diminish same-sex attraction." The event was held at the LDS Church's Joseph Smith Memorial Building in Salt Lake City. Hafen promised attendees, "If you are faithful, on resurrection morning -- and maybe even before then -- you will rise with normal attractions for the opposite sex." Whenever the devil -- whom Hafen referred to as "the adversary" -- tries to "convince you that you are hopelessly 'that way,' so that acting out your feelings is inevitable, he is lying," Hafen said. "He is the father of lies." Last month, the American Psychological Association passed a resolution advising mental health professionals against telling their clients they can change their sexual orientation through therapy or other treatments. No solid evidence exists that such efforts work, the APA concluded, and some studies suggest the potential for harm, including depression and suicidal tendencies. A task force reviewed 83 studies on sexual-orientation change conducted since 1960. The "long-standing consensus" of the behavioral and social sciences, the APA noted, is that homosexuality is a "normal and positive variation of human sexual orientation." Will Carlson of Equality Utah, which advocates on behalf of gay and transgender Utahns, when contacted by The Tribune, said, "These young men and women at Evergreen are experiencing normal attractions right now ... It's irresponsible for [Hafen] to suggest that if someone just wants to bad enough, they can be straight." Hafen spent a large portion of his talk, held during a Sunday-like service, criticizing the gay-rights movement and denying a biological link to sexual orientation. Same-sex attraction is "not in your DNA," he said. He attacked the APA's decision to remove homosexuality from its list of mental disorders, deeming it politically motivated. "In the early 1970s, the public and most lawyers, doctors and therapists saw homosexuality not as normal adult behavior but as a psychological disorder," he said. "We have witnessed primarily an aggressive political movement more than we've witnessed substantive change in the medical or legal evidence." Lisa Diamond, a psychology professor and researcher at the University of Utah, in an interview with The Tribune , called Hafen's assertion "hilarious" and "absolutely untrue." Homosexuality had been listed as a disorder, Diamond said, without any real scientific data. The APA reversed course after a pioneering psychologist, Evelyn Hooker, produced research to show there was no difference between the mental health of straight and gay individuals, she said. "That moment really did represent, in fact, the triumph of science over prejudice," Diamond said. There is "strong evidence" that there are "biological contributions" to sexual orientation, Diamond noted, but it's a complex process. She called arguments about the lack of a so-called "gay gene," a "smoke screen" for those who promote sexual-orientation change. Reprinted From Salt Lake Tribune

Uproar in Texas Over Billboards

gaybillboard1Christian Pro-Gay billboards are causing something of a major uproar in North Texas where a coalition of five local churches who are all part of the Worldwide Metropolitan Community Church have paid to spread a message of toleration. Their billboards include messages like “Jesus Said Some Are Born Gay”, and “Ruth Loved Naiomi More Than Adam Loved Eve.” The reaction among many people in North Texas is heavily negative with many demanding that the pastors of the five churches reread the Bible, of course demanding that they do so with the same exact interpretation that they are using. Of course, most of the people who are demanding this are likely using the King James Bible or later editions.

gaybillboard3One of the billboards states “Jesus Affirmed a Gay Couple”, and the citation for that is held in the Greek where the word ‘pais’ is the word used to indicate a same-sex partner. Greek culture, especially in ancient times, was very open to homosexuality with both historical figures like Socrates and Sappho as well as mythical figures like Apollo and Athena being linked heavily with same-sex lovers. WBC to picket MJ Service

phelpswestchurch

Members of Fred Phelps's Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) plan to picket Michael Jackson's memorial service. The WBC is infamous for their "Love Crusades", obnoxious displays of insensitivity and homophobia at the funerals of fallen American soldiers. The controversial if monotone message of the "Love Crusade" seems to be to blame everything that is wrong in the world on homosexuality. The crusades are part of a hate-based mission started in Kansas by the WBC and Fred Phelps. The church exists in order to picket the funerals of people who died of AIDS, demonstrate against the "fag lifestyle", and other random homophobic rants. The self proclaimed "Christian" church posted the following at their web site:
Michael 'Wacko Jacko' Jackson is in hell! WBC will be there to remind you to stop worshiping the dead. We will be there to tell you to Thank God for the death of this filthy, adulterous, idolatrous, gender-confused, nationality-confused, unthankful brute beast. We will be there to remind you that God Killed Wacko Jacko. There is a God, and a Day of Judgment. For you to wallow and murmur against God for his righteous Judgments is sin and will cause YOU to join Michael in hell
Police are preparing to fend off vast crowds at the Michael Jackson memorial after 1.6 million fans applied for just 17,500 tickets to commemorate the King of Pop on Tuesday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. It remains to be seen whether or not the WBC will be able to make good on their threatened "Love Crusade". Born of the media and an intolerant strain of Christianity, Phelps and his clan of hate mongers are a dirty little secret of mainstream Christianity. Their extremism only magnifies the homophobia suffered by many Christians, and puts to shame those homophobic Christians who would deny the most basic human right, marriage, to the homosexual community. Back in February of 2008, after Brokeback Mountain actor Heath Ledger succumbed to his overdose of drug, Westboro Baptist Church (WBC),  announced they would picket Ledger's funeral, for him doing 'vile' gay things with Jack Gyllenhaal. Only a dozen or so members appeared at a memorial service.

As for Michael Jackson, these evil freaks will only add to the crush and the circus. Already the WBC is adding to the Michael Jackson media buzz, a buzz that is now become a distinct roar, a roar for the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

Snake Oil Shop?

matthew_whitePastor Matthew C. Manning, a prominent proponent of the "ex-gay" movement and leader of Lighthouse World Evangelism in Santa Rosa, California has a long history of arrests for public sexual misconduct.  Manning claims he was "delivered from homosexuality" in 1989 and miraculously healed of AIDS through prayer in 1994.  He first gained noteriety on Roseanne Barr's talk show, and has appeared on numerous Christian television broadcasts, including The 700 Club and several episodes of The Joni Show on CBN, alongside Exodus president Alan Chambers and Focus on the Family's Mike Haley.

David Roberts of Ex-Gay Watch located arrest records on Manning over the past 11 years on charges of sexual misconduct and/or lewd public acts:
  • In 1998, Manning was arrested for soliciting sex from a male undercover police officer in a public park near Hansen Dam in Los Angeles.  The charges were dismissed or not prosecuted.
  • In 2000, Manning was arrested for soliciting or engaging in lewd public behavior in North Hollywood.  He pleaded not guilty and demanded a jury trial, and was acquited in 2001.
  • In 2005, Manning was arrested at a 24-Hour Fitness gym in Santa Rosa and charged with misdemeanor sexual battery for inappropriately touching a 22-year-old man against his will.  Manning entered a plea deal, and received a restraining order to stay away from both the victim and the gym for one year.
According to its website, Lighthouse World Evangelism's philosphy is to "recognize the primacy of the spiritual truth revealed in the Bible and incarnate in Jesus Christ, and acknowledges that all truth, wherever it is found, is of God.  All truth finds its unity in God." Responding to the arrests, Truth Wins Out director Wayne Besen said,
"We call on Manning to immediately close down his snake oil shop. We also urge those in the media who promoted his fake miracle to apologize and update their audience on the sordid facts that have been revealed.”
Roberts is conducint ongoing research on Manning's criminal past and says the results will be posted on Ex-Gay Watch in the next few days.  He is asking anyone who has had their own experience with Manning to contact him with any pertinent information. Reprinted From Article By Kelvin Lynch

“Gay” exorcism?

Exorcism

Found this on the Fox61 Connecticut Web site today and it really freaked me out, can you imagine? It’s a news report about a church called “Manifested Glory Ministries” and a video the church posted on YouTube showing a 20 minute “exorcism” in which church leaders try to cast out the “homosexual demons” in a teenage boy. They have reportedly taken down the YouTube account, but the news reporter says the video is still available on other Internet sites.

The Gay Confederacy

compfedgayflagSome folks believe that if a man is gay, he is less than a man. In fact the Southern Baptists and other Southern Holy Rollers in and around the buckle of the Bible Belt think of a gay man as a person as some sort of a demon called up from the pits of hell. Homophobia runs deep in the south. Living in the closet or living out a double-life is all so common in the southern states. I have always found Southern American history interesting and I really love to read gay Southern history. Unfortunately there is not a great deal of it documented. For so long many believed that the gay experience was urban and that sexual freedom was only found in bigger cities. The assumption was that rural areas regulated untraditional sexual practices. However, gay culture and gay sex existed and is quite flourishing in small towns and communities throughout the south. southern-states2Gay history is always in the making and I believe we are living in a day and age that is very fascinating, as fascinating as the Stonewall Riots 40 years ago. The Advocate has a great account of the pioneers who never knew a time before Stonewall in their June/July Double Issue in honor of the 40th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. Be sure to check it out, as it lists 40 people under 40 years old and their dedication to the promise of the pioneers who came before them. I wanted to give you my take on my gay history that I grew up around and with by sharing with you some things about a film I think you would really enjoy and a film which contains the only known video footage of Matthew Shepard before his death while he was a college student in North Carolina. More than a decade has passed since Tim Kirkman filmed his Emmy-nominated documentary Dear Jesse, yet the piece retains its significance as one of the first accounts of the divisive rhetoric that has come to characterize American politics. This short film is a first-person compare-and-contrast between the gay filmmaker and the notoriously conservative Jesse Helms, who served five terms as a Republican senator from North Carolina. Kirkman, who grew up in a Monroe, North Carolina, seeks to understand what motivates decent, “God-fearing” people to practice the politics of hate.

jacket

In 1972, Helms became the first Republican to represent North Carolina in the U.S. Senate since the 19th century. His conservative politics quickly earned him the moniker “Senator No” -- that is, no affirmative action, no abortion, no gay rights. Despite his tendency toward intolerance, Helms would become the longest-serving popularly elected U.S. senator in his state's history. Yet it would be a mistake to characterize North Carolina as a state other than one built on “churches and banks,” says local theater director Steve Umberger. His production of Angels in America, a play sympathetic to gays and people with AIDS, met with firm disapproval from conservative Carolinians. And the state was and still is very much composed of middle-class Americans who respect Helms for his consistent -- albeit bigoted -- rhetoric. Although times have changed -- the 1998 film was produced before same-sex marriage was legalized in Massachusetts -- Kirkman shows us that we are still a nation deeply divided over issues of moral “right” and “wrong.” And he points to the toll that this division can take on the American public.
[PLAYLIST not found]

The movie concludes with a short clip of Matthew Shepard, interviewed with his boyfriend at Catawba College in North Carolina two years before his tragic death. Not included in the original documentary, the 1998 tape included the footage as a reminder that a lack of tolerance can breed violence. “This is the only footage I have of Matthew,” Kirkman comments on the film. “It's not fair. It isn't enough.” And it isn't enough to encompass the vitality of the young man. But it does serve to emphasize the necessity for understanding -- on both sides of the divide. dearjessebuyCLICK HERE TO REVIEW AND ORDER DEAR JESSE This telling documentary is an "open letter" to Jesse Helms, the infamously conservative "Senator No." Director Kirkman, a 25-year-old gay man and North Carolina native, who left for the more liberal world of New York returns in this personal quest for understanding and perspective.
