Gay Love Triangle Ends in Murder!

Two men who were caught earlier this year with drugs, guns and thousands in counterfeit cash in Chicago are now sitting in a Louisville jail, accused of murder.

The bizarre story began with a love triangle involving the two suspects -- Jeffrey Mundt and Joseph Banis -- and a third man, whose identity is still being withheld by authorities.

Police say Mundt and Banis, both 38, were involved in a sexual relationship with that third man sometime late last year. But the pair hatched a scheme to rob him of drugs sometime in December and instead wound up killing him, according to Louisville police.

To hide the crime, Mundt and Banis apparently decided to put the body in a plastic tub and bury it beneath the basement of Mundt's aging home in the historic Old Louisville neighborhood, according to police.

The man was never reported missing, so no one ever came looking for him.

Then, in April, Banis and Mundt made a trip to Chicago. They got a room at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, where shortly after their arrival, Mundt handed a doorman a wet $100 bill. Skeptical, the doorman notified his bosses, the police were called, and the couple were taken into custody in the hotel lobby. A search of their room turned up about $50,000 in cash -- much of it fake -- knives, guns, and bottles of what's believed to be GHB, better known as the date rape drug, according to authorities.

Banis and Mundt were arrested, and a slew of charges were thrown at them. Mundt was initially held on a $50,000 bail, and Banis' bail was set at $200,000.  After a court hearing, both posted 10 percent bond and were allowed to leave the state, the Tribune reported.

Banis and Mundt returned home to Louisville. Then, on Thursday night, police there received a 9-1-1 call.

Mundt had locked himself in a bedroom and called for help, saying Banis was trying to break into the room with a hammer to kill him. Officers arrested Banis, and while questioning him, he said something they just didn't believe.

"You always get the, 'I know where a body is buried,'" Homicide Lt. Barry Wilkerson told the Louisville Courier-Journal. "You're normally on a wild goose chase. ... But this time there was actually something there."

Police listened intently to Banis' story -- that his boyfriend had killed a man six months before and buried his body in the basement -- and decided to follow-up. A patch of loose soil in the earthen floor under the old home seemed strange, and after getting a warrant, they dug it up. There, shoved in a plastic tub about four feet under the ground, they found the body of a man who had been shot and stabbed multiple times.

Now, Banis and Mundt are again behind bars, both charged in the murder. So far, the victim's identity has not been released, although police have spoken with his family, who said he often went without talking to them for long periods of time, so they never reported him missing. Source: NBC Chicago

More Gold Arrives in Heaven: R.I.P. - Rue McClanahan

Actress Rue McClanahan died early this morning: she was 76. Truly, more gold has arrived in Heaven this day. Rue was born February 21, 1934 in Oklahoma and graduated with honors from the University of Tulsa with degrees in German and theater arts. She would go on to have 1 child (Mark Bish) and to marry 6 times: Tom Bish, Norman Hartweg, Peter D'Maio, Gus Fisher; Tom Keel & Morrow Wilson Rue was known for her roles as Vivian Cavender Harmon on Maude, Fran Crowley on Mama's Family & Blanche Devereaux on The Golden Girls, a role that won her an Emmy Award. Rue began acting on Off-Broadway in NYC in 1957, but did not make her Broadway debut until 1969 when she portrayed Sally Weber in the original production of John Sebastian & Murray Schisgal's musical: Jimmy Shine, with Dustin Hoffman in the title role. She replaced Carole Shelley as Madame Morrible in the musical Wicked on May 31, 2005. She played the role for 8 months and departed the cast on January 8, 2006. She was replaced by Carol Kane on January 10, 2006. Her role as Caroline Johnson on Another World (July 1970 - Sept. 1971) brought her notoriety. On the show, while taking care of twins Michael & Marianne Randolph, Caroline fell in love with their father, John & began poisoning their mother, Pat. The short-term role was extended to more than a year before Caroline was finally brought to justice after kidnapping the twins. Once her role on Another World ended, Rue joined the cast of the CBS soap Where the Heart Is, in which she played Margaret Jardin. McClanahan’s manager sited the cause of death as a “massive stroke." Rue had undergone treatment for breast cancer in 1997. After her recovery, she spoke to cancer support groups about “aging gracefully." Rue was nominated for an Emmy as the man-crazed Blanche Devereaux on The Golden Girls in 1986, 1987 (won), 1988 & 1989. Rue is the 3rd Golden Girl in as many years ~ Estelle Getty, (Sophia) passed in 2008 followed by Bea Arthur (Dorothy) who died in 2009. This leaves Betty White as the sole surviving 1985-92 sitcom personality. In 1971 she played a vicious fag hag in the film: Some of My Best Friends Are. The film was set in a gay bar.

McClanahan landed her iconic role in 1985, at age 51, as lusty Southern belle Blanche Deveraux on Golden Girls. Alongside Betty White, Bea Arthur and Estelle Getty, she helped turn NBC's Saturday night sitcom about four seniors in Miami into a hit. "I heard Betty White say this so many times: 'Four old broads are so non-threatening.' We could do and say a lot of things that shows with younger actors couldn't," she later said about the show, which addressed addiction, menopause, homosexuality and other taboo topics.

-

I DO, AGAIN - McClanahan was married six times during her life, including to Gus Fisher in 1976 (pictured at their wedding with her Maude costars, Bea Arthur and Conrad Bain). "Oh, God – six husbands," McClanahan later lamented to Entertainment Weekly. She's survived by her last husband, actor Morrow Wilson, and a son, Mark, from her first marriage.

-

MRS. MCCLANAHAN - She landed her first Broadway role in 1968 alongside a young Dustin Hoffman in the short-lived musical Jimmy Shine, about a struggling artist fumbling through his relationships with women. "It was right after The Graduate. And about half of the country's teenage girls were enthralled with Dustin," she later told Broadway.com. "There'd be, what always seemed like, hundreds of 15-year-olds out by the stage door every performance.".
-

A MAGNIFICENT DITZ - If you thought Betty White was the only Golden Girl who could play a dummy, think again! McClanahan portrayed the dopey Vivian on Bea Arthur's groundbreaking sitcom Maude from 1972 to 1978.
-
A FAMILY AFFAIR - A brilliant character actress, McClanahan also played spinster Fran, the older sister of Thelma-Mae (Vicki Lawrence) in Mama's Family for a year, starting in 1983. Also on the series: Future Golden Girls costar Betty White, as snooty Ellen.
-
TRULY GOLDEN - All four Golden Girls stars won Emmys for their work – and McClanahan took home her statue in 1987. Originally, she was considered for the role of Rose, which went to Betty White. "I said, 'Oh no, that would be agony, not to be able to play Blanche,'" she later said.
-
A WICKED TURN - After battling – and beating – breast cancer in 1997, the actress returned to Broadway in 2001's The Women, and later took on the role of Wicked's Madame Morrible in 2005.
-
TRASH-TALKING - In her final series, McClanahan played the matriarch to a trashy Texas family in Logo's dark comedy Sordid Lives. "I have several steamy sex scenes," she dished to the Gay & Lesbian Times. "They're wild and raucous. I suppose Blanche would probably approve."
-
AUTHOR, AUTHOR! - While happily married to sixth husband Morrow Wilson, McClanahan penned an autobiography about her storied love life, My First Five Husbands... And the Ones Who Got Away. "The whole point is to help other 20-year-olds not get into the same mess that I got into," she told EW. "When it comes to human relationships, my advice is to operate out of love. And I mean, not romantic love. But the bigger love. The real love. Operate from there".

R.I.P. - Gay Dwarf Activist Harry Wielder Killed By New York Taxi

The New York Post said Harry Wieder, 57, walked with crutches and was leaving a community board meeting last night when he crossed in the middle of the block and was hit by a yellow taxi cab. "We had all just left the (board) meeting and his car was parked across the street. It was laborious for him to walk. For him to walk to the corner and cross the street would have been extremely difficult. He was crossing the street in the middle of the block," said district manager Susan Stetzer. "The cab driver was very distraught." Mr Wieder was rushed to Bellevue Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The diminutive crusader got his start as an activist in the early 1980s when he came out as gay and got involved in the rights group Act-Up. "He came out of the closet like a cannonball," said author Betty Adelsen, who profiled Mr Wieder in her 2005 book, The Lives of Dwarves: Their Journey From Public Curiosity Toward Social Liberation. In the following years. Mr Wieder became a fixture at community board meetings, rallies and all sorts of political events, where he became well known to New York City’s political players. Mr Wieder, the child of Holocaust survivors, was born in 1953 with achondraplasia - a kind of dwarfism - and was raised in Queens. In the early 1980s he underwent surgery on his spine that left him walking with crutches or using a wheelchair for the rest of his life. He also suffered significant hearing loss and lived in a home for the deaf on the Lower East Side. Read more at the New York Post

Haiti Quake: Ceiling Fell On Gay Group, 14 Killed

A gay support worker in Haiti says he lost fourteen members of his group as the devastating earthquake hit Port-au-Prince this week. "We were having our usual support group meeting on a quiet Tuesday afternoon when the worst happened," recounts gay and bi HIV support service SEROvie worker Steve La Guerre. "The sound is unforgettable. I can't even describe the horror as the ceiling and the wall of the conference room started to fall and the chaos started. "Fourteen young men were lost forever in the earthquake. Paul Emile, the leader of the group, and Stacy were the only survivors," he says in an email message. "It is now more than ever that SEROvie and ACCV (Civic Action Against HIV) are needed to provide the quality services we have been providing to our beneficiaries: food, clothes, and any type of help is needed for our members. Any help will do. "Light a candle for these souls and for Haiti. Lord help us." Le Guerre's message was relayed by the International Gay & Lesbian Human Rights Commission, which has sent funds directly to SEROvie to allow their services and supplies to continue to reach their LGBT and HIV-affected clients in Haiti. Haitian authorities now believe that up to 200,000 people have died as a result of the 7.0 magnitude quake. STORY CREDIT: GayNZ

Son Denied From Saving His Dying Mother With Blood Donation!

A student who was prevented from donating blood to his dying mother has called for the ban on gay people donating blood in the UK to be lifted. 21-year-old Dij Bently (pictured, left) told Scottish newspaper The Herald how, when his mother Christine (pictured, left center) was diagnosed with cancer in 2005 and became in desperate need of a blood transfusion, he offered to donate his blood to her. However, as an openly gay man, he was unable to donate his own blood by law, because of the risk of sexual infections such as HIV. Dij now joins a growing number of campaigners raising awareness of the issue ahead of next month’s meeting of The Advisory Committee on the Safety of Blood, Tissues and Organs, the body that advises the Government on blood safety. Dij commented: “Anybody who has got a heart would want to help. And it’s especially poignant when it’s a member of your own family. “I went along to my local clinic on my 17th birthday. I really wanted to give blood. After I’d handed in my questionnaire, I was very sensitively taken to the side by the nurse who said: ‘I’m really sorry, we’re really grateful to have you along but unfortunately because you have engaged in activity with men, we can’t take your blood.” Christine died on 24 August last year after developing acute myeloid leukaemia and a brain infection. In the months leading up to her death, many members of Christine’s family were urged to donate blood, but not Dij. “Maybe gay men do have a right to give blood if they want to. Certainly for me, who was in a monogamous relationship, I think it would have been acceptable in these circumstances,” he argued. Also speaking to the Herald, a spokeswoman for The Scottish Blood Transfusion Service argued: “To minimise the risk of a blood transfusion transmitting an infection to patients, all donations are tested for viruses such as HIV. However, the tests are not completely infallible, particularly in the early stages of infection. “To reduce this risk, the current policy is to ask those groups who have an increased risk of blood-borne viruses not to donate blood on a temporary or permanent basis. Currently, men who have sex with men are asked not to give blood permanently, with the exclusion resting on specific sexual behaviours, rather than sexuality.” Last month, Sweden became the latest country to lift the ban. True Crime Story - 'Miss Tina Regrets' By Rick Reed, 'The Stephen King of Gay Horror'

By 'The Stephen King of Gay Horror' - Rick Reed: I Google the terms ‘gay crime’ and come up with tons of hits about hate crimes. But this month I wanted to write about a kind of crime (that can be defined legally and ethically) that has taken a unique hold on the gay community, the gay male community in particular. That crime goes by many names, the most proper of which is crystal methamphetamine. It’s also called “Tina”, giving it a girlish, kinda friendly ring. Don’t let the nickname fool you, though, this “Tina” is a real bitch. And the crime I’m talking about here is her allure and the toll it's taking on the gay community. I am not the first person to suggest that the rise in meth use (reported in almost all states) is directly linked to a rise in HIV-infection. When you’re flying with Tina, precautions go out the window and it’s easy to see the correlation. I know, I’ve had my share of experience in the past with this corrosive and not easily shaken drug. Tina has not scarred my life so much, but she has scarred the lives of those around me. I once was with a gorgeous young twenty-something meth head trick who tearfully told me how he thought his neighbors were piping voices into his apartment to drive him crazy (paranoia is a common side-effect of the drug). And I also had a good friend commit suicide, or at least I think it was suicide. He had tried on more occasions than I can count to get away from the drug, telling me how he no longer truly derived any pleasure from it, but was simply chasing those initial highs. He worried about the people he hooked up with online, people he would have once found so unsavory he would have had nothing to do with them, and yet now found himself having sex with them to share in their party favors. My friend, who shall remain nameless, OD’d one night on Tina. He was alone in his apartment. He was discovered nude, with his computer open to a popular online hookup site. A bareback porn video played on his DVD. This is the final memory he left for family and friends and despite the indignity of it, I have always wondered if his death was on purpose. He had confided in me that he wanted to quit, but that he didn’t think he could afford rehab. He was twenty-six years old. When he died—of cardiac arrest—he was six foot, two inches tall and weighed 145 pounds. He had been a gorgeous young man. It will always haunt me if he was chasing hard after yet another high or if he was simply escaping. To cope with my grief at watching a vibrant, smart, funny, and handsome young man fall so far in a little over the course of a year, I composed a suicide note from him, based on our conversations:
It’s Saturday night, and Miss Tina is over again. She’s become a regular fixture around my place. Once upon a time, she was everything I ever wanted in a friend. She was fun, boys and girls! She was cheap. She was wicked. She could keep me up all night. But Miss Tina just isn’t much fun anymore. She’s like that little devil that sits on your shoulder and talks you into doing things you should never do, not when you’re in your right mind. But Miss Tina is an expert at taking you out of your right mind. She likes to get you all excited, heart racing, pulse pounding, so that all you can think about is pleasure. Miss Tina is, or at least she once was, the ultimate hedonist. But as I said, she’s not much fun anymore. She’s reneged on the promise she initially gave me when we first became friends. Back then, it was “let the good times roll!” and she kept me going…there was no such thing as too much sex, there was no such thing as not knowing someone well enough, there was no such thing as being discriminating…a man was a man was a man…as long as he had a hard dick. Tina would whisper: “go for it.” What did she care? When the consequences came around, clamoring to be paid, Miss Tina was out to lunch, or would have been, if the railish thing ever believed in eating. No, Miss Tina wasn’t around for the empty pockets, empty checkbook, the diagnoses of illnesses that were embarrassing or horrifying. But in spite of her perfidy, I always invited her back into my life. She had a way of making me miss her. Even though she was a bitch who betrayed me. With Miss Tina, you learned the lesson of betrayal early on, but she was always too charming and you’d always wind up forgiving her. Because you remembered the good times. And Miss Tina always held out the promise that they would be back. Those good times. Those hot, sweaty times when sex could last for twelve, fourteen hours, sometimes days. When you felt so up you could do anything… Except Miss Tina still hangs around and the good times seem to have taken a powder. Now she just makes me feel sick. Now it’s too much trouble to try to find partner or partners to share in the joy she used to bring. It’s easier to pop in a porno and hope that some of the old euphoria will return. It has to come back. Miss Tina used to really deliver. I’ll keep trying her until she comes back. We had such fun!

Gay Bar Brawl Ends In Death Of Gay Man

A bar fight that erupted at a gay nightspot in Toledo claimed the life of one area man. The death is not thought to be a hate crime. The fight was reportedly sparked at about 2:30 a.m. Dec. 13 on the dance floor of Caesar’s Showbar, a gay establishment, reported Findlay, Ohio newspaper The Courier on Dec. 23. The fight turned into a brawl that continued outside after the bar’s staff ejected a number of people; 32-year-old Marland Woods, of Findlay, reportedly tried to intervene and protect another individual at some point in the melee. However, Woods himself became the victim of a fatal beating after leaving the bar. Woods was hospitalized but succumbed to head injuries nearly a week later, on Dec. 19. Woods did not often go out, his sister, Shonda Floyd said. Woods’ domestic partner of 10 years, Brian Hunker, confirmed this, saying that Woods "worked every day of the week. He had one day off and that’s why he went out." Woods reportedly went to the bar with a friend; Hunker was not present when the brawl broke out. "He was such a homebody," Woods’ sister. "This was only the second time this year he went to a bar and this happened to him. He never started any trouble. He died trying to keep someone else from being hurt." One man was arrested on Dec. 9 for felonious assault in connection with the brawl, but no one has been charged with murder. A Dec. 19 article in the Toledo Blade said that the staff of Caesar’s Showbar ejected a number of patrons, including Woods, due to the fight, and that Woods then crossed the street to a Greyhound Bus station, where he was attacked. The assailant kicked and stomped on Woods, inflicting head injuries; he then left the scene with several others in a white Jeep. Police pulled the vehicle over later and placed 20-year-old Norman Coggins under arrest. Coggins was later arraigned on charges of felonious assault and released; he is due back in court on Jan. 8. Woods’ family and friends held a vigil outside the bar on Dec. 22. Shonda Floyd told local ABC affiliate WTVG, "I am so angry," and said she wanted "some type of justice" in the case. "They stomped my brother," Floyd said. "It’s absolutely not right... They took away my kids’ uncle. They took away my brother." "Every hour is a struggle," Hunker told the news channel. Lover Gets "Spun" & Hangs Self Over His Boyfriend's Failure To Buy Him A New Car

A gay was found dead in his condominium unit in Quezon City, Phillippines Saturday night after he hanged himself when his American boyfriend declined to buy him a car. Romeo de Jesus, 32, was already dead when he was found at around 7 p.m. Saturday in his condominium unit.. A police officer said that De Jesus, who was already in advance stage of decomposition, was hanging from the ceiling with a GI wire looped around his neck. Police also theorized that De Jesus was also high on illegal drugs when he committed suicide since police also found in his condominium unit 16 pieces of sealed sachets containing shabu (or methamphetamine hydrochloride), two rolls of aluminium foils, 17 strips of aluminium foils, and four lighters. De Jesus’ roomate, Allan Battaler, 27, told police that the victim’s boyfriend, navy man Joseph Coether, called him from Iraq, asking him to look after his friend (De Jesus) because he threatened to kill himself after the navy man refused his request to buy him a new car. source: Manila News
