Elizabeth Taylor's Heart Surgery Went Great. Hospitalization Not Caused by Grief of Michael Jackson Death

elizabeth_taylorElizabeth Taylor said Thursday that her heart surgery was successful, adding that "it was like having a brand new ticker." The message on her Twitter page comes two days after she announced she was having heart surgery at an undisclosed hospital to repair a leaky valve. "Any prayers you happen to have lying around I would dearly appreciate," she said Tuesday. In a message Thursday, the Oscar winner thanked fans. "Dear Friends, My heart procedure went off perfectly," she posted. "Thank you for your prayers and good wishes. Know they all helped." The 77-year-old did not go into further detail about her heart condition or the medical procedure. Taylor was briefly hospitalized this summer for "scheduled testing" and checked out "sore, but intact," she said in an online message posted in July.
At the time, her publicist denied tabloid rumors that Taylor's hospitalization was caused by her grief over the sudden death of her close friend Michael Jackson.
Taylor, who uses a wheelchair because of scoliosis, or abnormal curving of the spine, regularly uses Twitter. The social networking Web site allows users to publish messages using 140 characters or less. Taylor posts on her account, DameElizabeth, which has over 165,000 followers. Dame Elizabeth is one of my favorite divas and a real friend to the gay community. The London-born movie star has won two Academy Awards for best actress for "Butterfield 8" in 1961 and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" in 1967. Story From CNN-Entertainment

Elizabeth Taylor Goes Out

Elizabeth Taylor made a low-key return to public life Thursday night with a trip to her favorite watering hole.

In the film legend's first known appearance since she was hospitalized last month, Taylor headed to The Abbey, a popular West Hollywood gay bar. "She was lively. She was laughing and she was smiling," said one onlooker. "Even if she was not as strong as the last time she was here, she was once again the life of her small party." Rumors about Taylor's ill health swirled over this summer, with one tabloid reporting that the 76-year-old was on life support. But her publicist denied the claims, calling them "dramatic, overstated and untrue." (Last month, a friend told PEOPLE that Taylor was out of the hospital and "busier than ever".) Back at the Abbey, the actress held court in a corner of the bar with a sizable martini in hand and four people at her side (one of whom held Daisy, Taylor's Maltese dog). Before she was wheeled outside, an assistant placed a pair of rhinestone sunglasses on the ever-stylish star. "She needed help getting into the car," says the witness. "As [they] drove away in this gigantic black sedan, all you could see was those sunglasses and a big smile on her face."
