Gays Have $712 Billion Buying Power

Man Shopping
Washington, D.C.  --  The total buying power of the U.S. gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) adult population in 2008 is projected to be $712 billion, according to the recently updated analysis by Witeck-Combs Communications and Packaged Facts. The estimate was originally derived in a joint study by both organizations entitled, "The U.S. Gay and Lesbian Market."  In 2007, the gay buying power projection was estimated at $690 billion.   In sharing the latest analysis, Bob Witeck, CEO of Witeck-Combs Communications said, "Estimating buying power can be an important business measure for companies and policy decision-makers.  This offers us a reasonable snapshot of the projected economic activity of America's diverse gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender population." Since 1993, Witeck-Combs Communications, Inc. has provided expert marketing and communications counsel to Fortune 500 companies in their strategies to reach the gay consumer market. Bob Witeck and his co-founder, Wes Combs, also are co-authors of "Business Inside Out: Capturing Millions of Brand Loyal Gay Customers" (Kaplan 2006).   Witeck stated that "buying power is not the same as affluence or wealth. No one should infer that same-sex households are more affluent than others. We have seen evidence from academic researchers that gay men may earn slightly less than their heterosexual counterparts."   He added that, "the best available Census data on same-sex couples supports the understanding, however, that gay populations tend to be somewhat more concentrated in major metro areas, and less likely to live in rural, under populated areas -- a characteristic generally associated with higher than average income. We also see that same-sex couples are less likely than their married heterosexual counterparts to have kids, and they are more likely to have both partners in the workforce, factors which yield higher per capita household income, especially in the case of gay male couples."   Justin Nelson, co-founder and President of the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (http://www.nglcc.org/), highlighted the latest analysis: "Our mission is dedicated to educating American business leaders on the far-reaching financial contributions made by GLBT households and business owners. This analysis helps confirm what we've learned about the integral roles that GLBT people play throughout the entire U.S. economy, and remind us that our efforts are valued and recognized."   Based on a reasonable and broad range of population samples, the analysis benchmarks between 6% to 7% of the adult U.S. population who self-identify as gay, lesbian or bisexual, or between 15 and 16 million adults. Unlike estimates of buying power for other populations, such as African Americans or Hispanics, the GLBT population is estimated only among adults over the age of 18 when they are more likely to be fully aware of their sexual orientation or gender identity. For other groups, the population total includes all ages.

Another Pride Season Kicks Off

GC-PrideParadeSched08TH.jpgGet out your beads and call your dealer: it has begun. Las Vegas already had theirs, like, two weeks ago and May 18th marked the beginning of the non-Nevada gay pride season, which starts in Long Beach and doesn't end until fucking November when Palm Springs has theirs. We swear we are proud, sometimes. And we know it's important for all you suburban and rural gays to strap on those Camel Baks full of vodka and descend on your nearest metropolis to drink and dance amongst throngs of your own for the first time since last year. We totally can't wait.
As for us, we're probably going to be slightly embarrassed all weekend like we usually are, wondering if too much blatant pride doesn't make one want to circle back to shame, while everyone wanders around muttering "Happy pride" and oscillating between hungover and drunk for three days straight.  Maybe after the Harvey Milk movie comes out the younger generation will learn why all this parading started in the first place, and pick up new vocab words like "Stonewall" and "Anita Bryant."  Anyway, here's a quick schedule so you can plan ahead (Boise pride is da bomb, yo).
Also, just a side note: GorgeousBoys and Naked Sword, will be sending out street teams including Falcon stars and hot male models. Check back after each sordid weekend is through for our exclusive footage from each event. * indicates that we'll be there for the festivities.   Join Us For PrideAlbuquerque, NM (Albuquerque Pride 2008)  June 13 - 14 Amsterdam, Netherlands (Amsterdam Pride 2008) Aug 1 - Aug 3 Atlanta, GA* (Atlanta Pride Festival 2008) July 4 - 6 Austin, TX (Austin Pride Parade 2008) June 14 Baltimore, MD * (Baltimore Pride 2008) June 21 - 22 Bangkok, Thailand (Bangkok Together 2008) Nov 1 - Nov 9 Barcelona, Spain (Barcelona Pride 2008) March 19 - 24 Berlin, Germany (Christopher Street Day Berlin) June 28 Boise, ID (Boise Idaho Pride) June 6 - 8 Boston, MA* (Boston Pride 2008) June 6 - 15 Charlotte, NC * (Pride Charlotte 2008) July 26 Chicago, IL* (PRIDEChicago 2008) June 29 Cologne, Germany (ColognePride 2008) June 21 - July 6 Copenhagen, Denmark (Copenhagen Pride 2008) August 11 - 16 Dallas, TX* (Dallas Pride 2008) Sept 21 Denver, CO (Denver Pridefest 2008) June 21 - 22 Detroit, MI (Motor City Pride) June 1 Dublin, Ireland (Dublin Pride 2008) June 13 - 22 El Paso, TX (El Paso Sun City Pride) June 5 - 8 EuroPride 08 (in Stockholm) July 25 - Aug 3 Frankfurt, Germany (Christopher Street Day 2008) July 18 - 20 Harrisburg, PA (Harrisburg PrideFest 2008) July 26 Hartford, CT (2008 Connecticut LGBTI Pride Festival) June 7 Houston, TX (Pride Houston) June 28 Iowa City, IA (Iowa City LGBT Pride) June 16 Indianapolis, IN (IndyPride!) Maneaters! Five Unsolved Gay Serial Killer Mysteries

GC-GaySerialKillersDahmerTH.jpgRemember Jeffrey Dahmer?  Who could forget that hottie, right? After hearing about the "smiley face" case, in which over 40 college guys have gone missing after nights of drinking and been found dead in rivers across the country, we decided to re-open the files on some other unsolved gay serial killings.  Granted, the possible motive in the "smiley-face" killings has not been revealed, but the sexual component of serial murder, coupled with the reasonably attractive, drunk college status of the victims, as well as our own tendency
toward the sensational leads us to believe that the boys of Randy Blue and Sean Cody shouldn't be taking their lives lightly. Here's a roundup of some other unsolved multiple-murders out there that the gays out there might be interested in—in a 1-AM-on-basic-cable kind of way.
JaricsSerial200.jpgColonial Parkway Killer On the Loose Since: 1986 Details: Four couples were abducted from their cars, including a lesbian couple, over the course of three years, and their bodies discarded either behind a rest area or along the Colonial Parkway in Virginia. One couple, who remains missing and whose car was found abandoned, is presumed dead but was never found. Police suspect that the murders were the work of a law enforcement officer or rogue CIA operative. Who Should Look Out For Themselves: Young porn wonder couple Aden and Jordan Jaric, who should think twice before making out at any Virginia rest stops. RavenAtlantaDragQueen200.jpgAtlanta Drag Queen Killer On the Loose Since: 1987 Details: Six men in women's clothes were shot in the head over the course of five years.  No known victims since, and no suspect was charged. Who Should Look Out For Themselves: Atlanta Drag Star Raven and The Artist Formerly Known As Stonie should keep a hand on their heel at all times. WillClarkSerial200.jpgNew York City Gay Serial Killer On the Loose Since: 1991 Details: The bodies of five men were discovered, hacked into pieces and usually in garbage bags, in the New York area over the course of three years.  As the New York Times reported, all five mature men were believed to be gay or bisexual, and four of the men were last seen in New York City gay bars, including the Townhouse on the Upper East Side and the Five Oaks piano bar in the West Village. No suspect was ever charged. Who Should Look Out for Themselves: Will Clark, host of Porno Bingo on Wednesdays in Hell's Kitchen, does too much good to fall into such evil hands!
GC-TimBonhamSerial200.jpgDenver Gay Slasher On the Loose Since: 1992 Details: Four men were stabbed to death in the same year, likely by a man they met in a Denver gay bar. No known victims since 1994. Who Should Look Out For Themselves: Denver-based former porn star Marcus Allen, aka Timothy Bonham... if he ever gets out of prison, that is.
DamienSerialKillers200.jpgMiami Gay Cuban Killer On the Loose Since: 1998 Details: Two gay Cuban refugees, Leonidas Ramos and Osvaldo Del Pino, were shot six days apart, probably after bringing home a stranger from Allapattah-Comstock Park. Miami police believe they've solved the crime, though a conviction has not been reached in the case. Who Should Look Out For Themselves: Damien Crosse (left) has moved away from his childhood home Miami's Little Havana, but who knows what danger lurks around the holidays. When we tell this hottie to play safe, we mean it!

The Long Beach Pride Was A Hit !

[Gallery not found]Record heat for Long Beach Pride festival Ms. Lola didn't let the record-breaking 93- degree heat on Saturday cramp her style. The 6-foot-tall drag queen, clad in a white lace gown and a monstrous Dolly Parton-like wig, stayed cool with a fan, parasol and a handkerchief wedged daintily in her padded cleavage. "I have some things to keep me cool," she said. "When you're a queen and proud of who you are, you keep going. And you still look fabulous at the end of the day." Sweltering temperatures didn't stop the party at the 25th annual Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride Festival, which kicked off at 11 a.m. Saturday in Rainbow Lagoon Park.

Hateful Perez Hilton on Set of Another Gay Sequel

People call us cunty, but we're bright-eyed kindergartners compared to overstuffed gossip ghoul Perez Hilton (we're also hotter and smarter, btw), who we find here doing some behind-the-scenes chatting with a slightly fatigued Rupaul and nipple-flashing Jonah Blechman on the Florida set of Another Gay Sequel, due out later this year and co-starring Brent Corrigan, Colton Ford, and Michael Lucas.

California Becomes Second State to Recognize Marriage Equality for Same-Sex Couples

HRC Hails Landmark Decision As Latest Step Toward Full Equality

WASHINGTON — Today, the California Supreme Court reversed a lower court decision and ruled that same-sex couples have the same right to marry as opposite-sex couples under the state constitution.  The court ruled that it is a violation of the state constitution to deny same-sex couples the right to marry, and that providing rights to same-sex couples through a separate system of domestic partnerships does not satisfy the state constitution. "This is a historic day for the state of California, and a long-awaited day for the plaintiffs in this case and their families," said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese.  "The California Supreme Court has made clear that same-sex couples in committed relationships and their families deserve the same level of respect afforded to opposite-sex couples.  The court did its job by ensuring that the state constitution provides the same rights and protections for everyone.  This is a decision that strengthens California families."  Solmonese continued, "We congratulate and commend the National Center for Lesbian Rights, Lambda Legal, the ACLU, Heller Ehrman, the Law Office of David C. Codell, Equality California, Our Family Coalition and, of course, the courageous plaintiff couples and their families who looked to the courts to defend their rights." The court’s decision involved several consolidated cases, collectively referred to as In re Marriage Cases.  The cases were filed in 2004.  In March 2005, a state trial court ruled that, under the state constitution, same-sex couples must be permitted to marry.  In October 2006, the California Court of Appeal reversed the trial court in a 2-1 decision.  The California Supreme Court’s decision today overrules the Court of Appeal’s decision.  A growing number of states are providing relationship recognition to same-sex couples.  California joins Massachusetts to become the second state to recognize civil marriage for same-sex couples.  Five other states provide same-sex couples with access to all the state level benefits and responsibilities of marriage, either through civil unions or domestic partnerships.  Three other states and Washington, D.C. provide same-sex couples with at least some of the basic benefits and protections made available to married heterosexual couples.  However, because of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act, same-sex couples do not receive federal rights and benefits in any state. Key results from the ruling: Same-sex couples in California will now be able to obtain a civil marriage license and receive the same respect and protections afforded to all married couples. Churches and other religious institutions will not have to recognize or perform ceremonies for these civil marriages. This ruling is not about religion; it’s about the civil responsibilities and protections afforded through a government-issued civil marriage license. The court’s decision does not entitle same-sex couples in California to receive the federal rights and benefits extended to married couples.  The so-called federal Defense of Marriage Act discriminates against same-sex married couples by denying them over 1,000 federal rights and benefits, including social security benefits, the ability to file a joint federal tax return, and the right to petition for a spouse to immigrate. Other states may legally recognize the civil marriages of same-sex couples performed in California in the same way they recognize out-of-state marriages by different-sex couples. The court’s decision today does not change the law in any other state, or federal law.  The Human Rights Campaign and the Human Rights Campaign Foundation signed onto an amicus or "friend of the court" brief in the consolidated cases to support and further explain the case for extending civil marriage rights to same-sex couples under the state constitution.  A number of other civil rights organizations, religious groups, child welfare experts, law professors, family and legal historians and others also signed or filed briefs in favor of extending civil marriage laws to same-sex couples.

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against GLBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all. Don’t Fall in Love with a Homo

Johnny “The Gay Pimp” McGovern is at it again—he recently hosted the Hookie Awards in WeHo—with a fantastic new single, “Don’t Fall in Love with a Homo“. Give a little listen and tell me you won’t be humming it for the rest of the day (”I know he look like a coal miner/but girl/you gotta know/you got a vaginaaaaaaa….”). I’m mentioning the single here because—per dragstress RuPaul, who brought this to my attention—”hot ginge porn star” Blu Kennedy is a featured bit of totty, as you can see from this screen cap. “I know he does your hair/takes you shopping everywhere/But he ain’t gonna touch you down there/Don’t fall in love with a homo/No, no no…”
