YouTube Hit by 'Porn Day'

pornIn case you missed it, Wednesday, May 20 was "Porn Day." Though of course, every day is porn day in the adult business. But two mainstream websites "celebrated" by hitting YouTube with a barrage of porn clips. Article By Edward Duncan, AVN Business A group of users on image-based message board 4chan and multi-media content site eBaum's World staged the "porn day" prank and YouTube has been cleaning up the mess, though it seems some images still come up in searches, despite the actual videos being yanked. The uploads actually began on Tuesday afternoon, according to ArsTechnica. Many of the uploaded clips appeared legitimate at first, starting with non-porn content, such as news or an interview.
"It may take some time for video search results and thumbnail images to disappear from the site," Google spokesperson Scott Rubin told Ars, adding the takedowns would be finished within a couple of days.
The adult clips were uploaded without any warnings on them that they contained adult content, which is certainly not funny in the least to parents whose children might frequent YouTube as well as those simply not interested in porn viewing at all and no desire to stumble upon it. Additionally, because the thumbnails in searches were still appearing as of Thursday morning, it was a cause for concern among parents in particular, considering some of the search tags included kid topics or heroes like the Jonas Brothers. Another problem is such a reckless stunt can only reflect poorly on adult companies and the industry, which could be blamed, though the prank came out of the mainstream. This could undermine responsible industry efforts in conjunction with child-protection groups such as the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection.
“It is upsetting when someone from outside the industry thinks it’s funny to expose everyone to content that is inappropriate for minors and to others who chose not to see. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was done by an anti-adult entertainment group just to discredit the adult industry which only produces content for and by adults,” ASACP CEO Joan Irvine told AVN.com.  “Many of the industry leaders support ASACP’s online child protection efforts as members and sponsors and over 2.2 million sites are labeled with the Restricted to Adults – RTA Website Label in order to help parents who use parental control systems.”

12 Steps to Effective Websites

hbk_en-image_internet-1Edward Lear must have had some precognition about what was in store for us all with the development of the internet when he wrote this nonsensical poem.
The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea In a beautiful pea green boat, They took some honey, and plenty of money, Wrapped up in a five pound note.
Many people do feel at sea after they launch their website and attempt to navigate the sometimes confusing channels of the internet. They wonder why their website doesn't get more traffíc and why their inbox is not filling up with emails from people clamoring to buy their products or services. It seems that the rules change as often as Oprah changes her clothes and who could ever hope to keep up with that! Price quotes for search engine optimization are all over the map; the process seems never-ending and expensive. How is it that some people seem to have great success on the web without spending a huge amount of money? Is it unrealistic to think that you can make a living working on the web? When faced with a seemingly overwhelming challenge it helps to break things down into bite-sized pieces.

Effective websites should include the following: 1. Your website needs to focus on a specific niche. 2. You need to do keyword research and although Google no longer gives weight to Meta keywords some of the other major search engines still do. 3. Your website should have the main keyword used throughout and each page should be written around 5-10 keywords that are tightly focused on that particular page's topic. 4. Content is still King. Well written, focused content is crucial. 5. Meta titles need to include your keywords. 6. Organization of content should include headings and subtitles to make it easy for readers to scan the pages. Be sure to include your keywords in these headings as well. 7. Most people on the web are looking for information. If you don't give them anything of value or entertain them, they will be gone, probably for good. 8. Use keywords in links whereever possible. 9. Include a call to action and, if possible, provide a Free tríal. You have to build trust before you can make a sale. 10. Check your website in various browsers (FireFox, Internet Explorer, etc.) to make sure it displays equally well in all. 11. Your personality is what attracts people to you so why would you create a generic website with all of the excitement of a flat glass of pop. Keep the content fresh so it has Fizz! 12. Most importantly, have realistic expectations of what you want to achieve with your website. With all the hype about overnight successes on the internet it's difficult to put your results into perspective. If you expect instant success and it isn't happening, it's easy to become demoralized and quit before you reach your goal. Some Other Important Web Marketing Tips Google page rank counts! The higher your page rank number the higher you will rank in user searches. How do you find out your page rank? Download the Google toolbar here for Internet Explorer http://toolbar.google.com/T4/ or here for FireFox http://tools.google.com/firefox/toolbar/install.html. website_optimisation-300x262Improve your page rank by encouraging other highly ranked websites in complementary businesses to link to yours and by developing content with a niche focus. Page rank is also affected by traffic numbers. A couple of ways you can improve traffic are pay-per-click advertising and posting articles on the web. Your web image is at least as important as your personal image. You wouldn't go out to meet a prospective client wearing a mishmash of styles and colours but many businesses have websites with tools that don't work, tables and text that are out of alignment, old information, dated colours, and confusing navigation. Those things are bad enough but when an experienced web developer looks at the code on a website they often find a website that looks good but is not built to encourage search traffic. Be prepared like the wise owl and make the job of marketing your business as easy as possible with a website that enhances your brand image and is technically sound and purrrr your way to success.

Be Hot On The Net

febjustinIt's no secret that a continually updated website with new content being added regularly comes off super hot to your readers and does extra well when it comes time to rank up at the Google search engine. Don't you wish your boyfriend website was hot like Justin who I've pictured here to your left ? One of the long standing methods to regularly expand a site's content is through the use of a blog. While there are numerous platforms to choose from for managing a blog, few can compare with the immense flexibility offered with WordPress, and at a cost of free, the price can't be beat either.  Google likes fresh new content, and setting up a blog on your site, assuming it is updated often with interesting and hot content, can be one of the best things you can do to help out your search rankings. The beauty behind WordPress is that there is a wide array of totally free plug-ins you can easily install that will make your blog totally search engine friendly. The following are some basic guidelines and essential plug-ins you should consider when you install your WordPress blog.

Template Design

The first configuration you need to do is work on customizing the design template to match your existing site. I suggest finding a template that matches as closely as possible to the look you are going for then work on tweaking its graphics, colors, and other particulars till you achieve the desired appearance.

Most of your changes will occur in the header.php, footer.php, index.php, and page.php files in the theme editor, however, the theme you install will dictate which files actually need to be updated. You will also need to make some adjustments to your CSS file. These changes all involve working with code and graphics, and are most likely left to a professional. Once you have your design set up, the rest of the customization is considerably less technical. The following subjects I'm laying out for you below are suggestions that most people can do themselves and you probably will not need an expert to help you here. If you are looking for a template and can't seem to find the one that excites you then let me know I've got tons of state-of-the-art templates I can share with you. Many are free and I have some very professional multi-functional ones for sale. I also take on some commissioned projects from time to time to develop custom designs as well. You can always contact me by clicking here.

Permalinks

The next thing you need to do is customize your URL's. You do not want the default post URLs ("pageid=#") as they are simply not search friendly and you want your default names to have some meaning to them. While you can customize your URL's with various plug-ins, you may not always think to do this, so be sure to have a default you can live with. Under the settings tab in your dashboard, clíck on permalinks. Here I suggest choosing one of the settings that includes the post name. Including the month and year is totally optional as it will have little to no impact on your search rankings, but you definitely do want to include the post name.

WWW or no WWW

With WordPress, there is no need to worry about the www vs no www redirects. It is handled for you, but you do need to select which variation you want, and it's very simple to do.

Under "General Settings" you will see two fields; one for "WordPress address" and the other, "Blog address". Ensure that both these fields include the "www" (or not), whichever you prefer, and that's it. (I always recommend using the "www" version of your URL as most people linking into your site will use it, and this will help keep a consistency among your site.

Required Plug-ins

There is an almost endless supply of free plug-ins out there that you can add to your site ranging from photo galleries and spam protection, to social media integrators for Twitter, Facebook, Digg, and others. While many of these others will benefit your blog and search rankings, the XML Sitemap, and SEO plug-ins are truly essential.

SEO Plug-in

When setting up your new installation, the first plug-in you need to install is one that will allow for totally customized title, meta description tags, and page URL's. There are a number of tools that do this ranging from the widely popular "All in One SEO Pack" to a relative newcomer "HeadSpace2". While I personally have yet to try HeadSpace2, it is high on my líst, as it has been recommended by many industry professionals as the best WordPress SEO plug-in. For any new blog installation I highly recommend this plug-in be installed right away.

XML Sitemap Plug-in

To the best of my knowledge, HeadSpace2 does not have an XML sitemap option, and as such I highly recommend "Google XML Sitemaps" . This plug-in will automatically generate XML sitemaps for you on the fly and submit it to Google every time you add, delete, or update a page or post. This helps ensure that Google has the latest information at all times. It's a very simple plug-in to install and configure and once setup, you can forget about it and it will do the job for you.

A well optimized site loaded with relevant content can do very well in Google if setup correctly. The power of WordPress can make this process incredibly easy so all you have to worry about is writing those great articles and selling your customers. The plug-ins and functionality of WordPress are endless and when installed correctly can make the optimization of your blog considerably easier, increasing your chances for top rankings. Warning Page Advice

Google Offers Warning Page Advice

Responsible purveyors of age-restricted materials have been given some new advice by Google that should help in their battle for online market share. Recently, a Google Webmaster Help user asked the search giant about the Googlebot's ability to "see" past a website's age verification or "warning" page in order to be able to index the website; which in this case involves the marketing of alcohol-based products. "As the site legally requires users to be over the legal drinking age to use the site," the webmaster said, "the first page of the client's website is a gateway page asking the user to confirm their country of residence and date of birth." One example of online age-verification on an alcoholic beverage site can be found at the Absolut Vodka website. One major concern among many adult webmasters offering age-restricted materials is that Googlebot and other search engine spiders may not be able to navigate beyond this gateway page; hampering organic search marketing efforts and overall profitability — a situation which is especially troublesome for users of robust age verification systems; such as the BirthDate Verifier developed by adult entertainment industry attorney Larry Walters — which can redirect visitors landing on deep-linked web pages to the site's home page for age verification. According to Google Webmaster Trends Analyst Susan Moskwa, the topic comes up periodically for alcohol, adult entertainment and other sites that need to serve an age verification notice on every page. "What we recommend in this case is to serve it via JavaScript," Moskwa revealed. "That way users can see the age verification any time they try to access your content, but search engines that don't run JavaScript won't see the warning and will instead be able to see your content." The advice provides adult webmasters with practical insight as to how age-verification and organic search engine marketing can easily co-exist.

Grand Opening Of Google's North Carolina Data Center

Lenoir Google Grand Opening As work continues at its large-scale data center in Lenoir, Internet search and applications giant Google has invited our Network President, M.A. Wilson to a celebration Wednesday. The event began with a ribbon cutting for all invited guests, followed by a public celebration lasting until 7 p.m. The festivities - featuring live music by Cold Fire, local North Carolina BBQ, activities for the kids and other surprises - took place at the data center site, located at 708 Lynhaven Drive, Lenoir. The ribbon cutting at the main entrance to the Google site included comments from local and state officials, along with Google representatives. Following the ceremonies, a community barbecue began at 4 p.m., with activities continuing during the next three hours. Google began construction of the data center in January 2007 on more than 200 acres of land in Lenoir. When it's completed, the center is expected to serve as a major routing point for Internet information and applications requests along the east coast of the United States. Google has said it intends to invest as much as $600 million and create as many as 200 jobs at the Lenoir site. At the 220-acre Google site, past, present and future coexist. More than 300 construction workers, many from local contractors, have transformed a hill into more of a mountain, moving vast quantities of earth. The surrounding neighborhood, meanwhile, looks much as it did before, with a mix of modest homes and largely shuttered furniture factories. The Blue Ridge Mountains and snow-capped top of Grandfather Mountain loom in the distance. The first data center has risen at the base of the hill, along N.C. 18, with large cooling units at the side. It's on track to begin limited testing this spring and should be fully up and running by the end of the year ... Google is also excavating the pad for the second building, which is expected to begin operating in 2009.

Larry Page and Sergey Brin started Silicon Valley-based Google while students at Stanford University in 1998. The GorgeousBoys Online Entertainment Network can be found on many search results through Google.
