Dancing With the Stars Creates New Gay Dance Show

ladybunnyBruno Tonioli is well known for being the popular judge on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, but many people don't know that he has taken the hit concept to the LGBT community with Show and Tell, an online dance show on Out.com. The following celebrity guests have appeared on the show:
  • Marissa Jaret Winokur – Tony award winning actress as Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray on Broadway.
  • Chad Allen  - Actor in Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, and the hit film series, The Donald Strachey Mysteries.
  • Candis Cayne – Actress in Dirty Sexy Money, and first transgender actress to play a reoccurring character on primetime television.
  • Robert Gant – Actor in Queer as Folk.
  • Lady Bunny - New York City drag queen legend and founder of the annual Wigstock event.
The celebrities get to dance at the Balliamos Dance Studio in LA with same-sex World Champion International Latin Ballroom dancers, Willem DeVries and Jacob Jason. Check out the VIDEO with great clips on Out.com's website.  Dancing With the Stars continues to be friendly to the LGBT community. Earlier this year, the cast danced on a float in the New York Pride parade, and just a few months ago, Cheryl Burke helped create the Dancing With the Drag stars competition, which had its finale last month. Dancing With the Drag stars was held at Cheryl Burke Dance and was hosted by Donna Sachet and Patrick Gallineaux. Celbrity judges included Cheryl Burke, Heklina, Sister Roma, Bruce Vilanch, Greg the Gay Sportscaster from Energy 92.7,  and Steve Wozniak - Apple Co-founder and Dancing With the Stars alumni. People wanting to see a live same-sex dancing competition locally can check out California Dreaming. The competition and show will be held at Hotel Whitcomb in San Francisco on November 7th, and will include a performance by Garza, winner of Dancing With the Drag Stars. Tickets can be purchased on the California Dreaming website. Story By Eric Ross - GLBT Examiner Writer

Southern Decadence Now Underway In New Orleans

SouthernDecadence3Thousands of tourists are filling New Orleans for the Southern Decadence Festival.   Organizers say Decadence is "one of the gay world's major annual events" with nearly 100,000 participants. People start arriving on Wednesday and most stay until Tuesday, enjoying such events as talent contests, dance parties, and free outdoor concerts. Special performing guests this year include Chi Chi Larue and drag superstar Lady Bunny. Visit Southerndecadence.net to track down your discount travel rates. And be sure to leave room in your luggage for all those beads you’ll earn. In the almost four decades since it started, Southern Decadence has become a traditional Labor Day weekend, end-of-summer, event. But for two of the last four years, hurricanes crashed the French Quarter-centered party. Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and Gustav last year both generated evacuation orders for the city and brought the festivities to a screeching halt. southerndecandanceChi Chi LaRue, the "Diva of Decadence," returns again for the 12th anniversary of the event.  The legendary Lady Bunny brings her outrageous show to The Bourbon Pub stage on Friday evening. The Bourbon Street Extravaganza returns with a free outdoor concert on Saturday afternoon at the corner of Bourbon and St. Ann Streets headlined by recording artist Deborah Cox.  DECA-DANCE XXI, the largest dance event of the weekend, is Saturday night upstairs at The Bourbon Pub / Parade,  with Pepper Mashay returning for a special performance with the boys of PLAYGIRL. And Sister Roma from  San Francisco's Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence returns to co-host Thursday night's Big Dick Contest with Chi Chi LaRue upstairs at The Bourbon Pub. 03decadence3The event started as a birthday party bar crawl with about a dozen New Orleans residents making the French Quarter circuit, Bray said. It has grown to one of the major gay events in the country,  a welcome economic boost for French Quarter merchants during one of the slowest tourist periods. The celebration runs through the Labor Day weekend and it comes as needed relief to the hotels, bars and restaurants. With no fanfare, Southerndecadence.net posted an online message Aug. 24 about the forthcoming Labor Day appearance at the Bourbon Pub by female impersonator Shirley Q. Liquor: "IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT. Due to scheduling conflicts for the entertainer, the Shirley Q. Liquor shows have been canceled." For More Information Check Out: www.southerndecadence.net

2008 Glammy Awards

I expected tons of false eyelashes, big boobs and feathers from the 10th Annual Glammy Awards, hosted by Cherry Jubilee, in New York City on Tuesday night. The Glammys are sort of like the gay Grammys given to drag queens and kings, transgenders and gay impresarios of the nightlife world. Google searching the term, the Urban Dictionary defined "glammy" as the "sticky nut sweat" you get when your legs keep rubbing against them in the heat. Well, I wouldn't have to worry about that happening to me, although maybe it would be a problem for some of the nominees, despite the fact they were wearing pantyhose and chiffon dresses.

Below is a list of all the winners and also some selected images from the awards show. You may also follow the associated links to learn more about the winners. There is a mix of videos and images so be sure to explore our page carefully.
