Lady Gaga makes a point of taking care of her "little monsters." That explains why the singer took time out from her busy touring and recording schedule on Wednesday to voice her support for 15-year-old Tennessee high school student Cole Goforth, who was sent home by officials at Greenbrier High School for wearing a T-shirt with the slogan "I Heart Lady Gay Gay."
"Thank u for wearing your tee-shirt proud at school, you make me so proud, at the monsterball, you are an inspiration to us all. I love you," Gaga tweeted on Wednesday, explaining that she'd been in the studio "for days and hours of record after record" when she heard one of her monsters was being discriminated against by teachers.
"I love you Cole, you just be yourself," she added early Thursday morning while on tour in Australia. "You're perfect the way God made you."
According to WSMV in Nashville, the fight over the shirt has turned into a First Amendment issue after Goforth's mother claimed that the school is violating her son's right to free speech by sending him home to change out of the shirt when other kids who wear shirts with religious slogans or Confederate flags aren't treated the same way.
Goforth, who is openly gay, drew the attention of his school's administrators on Monday, when he wore the shirt that pays homage to Gaga and her large gay following. He was sent home and ordered to change before returning to school because the shirt was allegedly causing a disruption. His mother said he's worn shirts with the word gay on them before with no problem and speculated that the issue is more about her son's look and orientation than the slogan.
"I think they are singling him out, I really do, and they've made statements that if he wore this in California, he'd fit in just fine," said mom Julie Gordon.

These four organizations advocate on behalf of the LGBT communities and promote marriage equality rights. The Power's website reports that the fundraiser will be rescheduled and wishes the star a full recovery.
Lady Gaga, entertainer and activist, was recently nominated for a GLAAD media award and has a history of standing up for gay rights. She has openly declared herself an opponent to homophobia and misogyny in the entertainment industry and spoke at the National Equality March in Washington in October 2009.
"I am honoured to be able to continue to raise awareness and money for this cause and these outstanding organisations,” she said prior to falling ill. “Organisations like these are in the trenches every day working on behalf of all of us whether you are LGBT or straight. The church, led by Reverend Fred Phelps, claims Lady Gaga is leading a revolution against God and will be going to hell. Oh, and for followers of Lady Gaga? She's actually bringing "them into slavery to their own corruption, teaching them to glory in their shame." And "She hates you!" Wow. We love Lady Gaga because she's so different; not to mention, she's super sweet and not harming a soul as far as we can see.
I have a feeling this isn't really bothering Lady Gaga too much, but it could be a huge annoyance to fans trying to attend her Missouri concert. Though I can't imagine too many people will show up to picket her show. And the mayor of St. Louis, Missouri, Francis Slay, actually has a sense of humor about the matter and says, "I hope her fans have fun and spend lots of money here. Other than that, there's 'Nothing Else I Can Say (eh eh)." So, it looks like even the mayor knows who Lady Gaga is!

But before agreeing to the trek, the pop star made sure West was aware her outrageous productions are created for and aimed at her gay followers. She told the rapper, "I just want to be clear before we decide to do this together: I'm gay. My music is gay. My show is gay. And I love that it's gay. And I love my gay fans and they're all going to be coming to our show. And it's going to remain gay."
The 23 year old insists she will always remain faithful to that section of her fanbase - because it was the gay community that launched her career.

At Tuesday morning's weekly GOP conference meeting, Republicans were shown a clip of a video parody of the Lady Gaga hit, "Just Dance" that replaces the popular song's refrain with "Just Tax."
The parody video was developed by Peter Cowman, a 23-year-old who just graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle, outside Rep Dave Reichert's district. A spokeswoman for Reichert said the congressman wanted to show his colleagues the video to encourage them to get young people involved using new media, and noted his district is home to a cluster of technology companies.
Asked about the video, House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence, R-Ind, laughed and said "it's part of the Pence youth initiative."
Pence admitted that very few members were familiar with the original Lady Gaga song.
