Another Gay Killing

SYRACUSE -- Syracuse Police say a man was shot and killed Friday night because he was gay.  Officers have arrested 20-year-old Dwight DeLee. He is facing a charge of second degree murder. Police Chief Gary Miguel says DeLee shot brothers Mark and Moses Cannon Friday night.

Investigators say DeLee fired one shot, grazing 18-year-old Mark Cannon and killing 22-year-old Moses Cannon. DeLee does have a history with weapons and drug charges.

Miguel says both Cannon brothers have homosexual tendencies. Investigators believe DeLee shot them because of their sexual preference. All three men were at a party in the 400 block of Seymour Street when the shooting happened. Investigators found a .22 caliber rifle at the party. They believe that may have been the murder weapon, but investigators are still looking into it.

SUGAR-DADDY PAYOUT

TAX-CHEAT GOV AIDE'S SUGAR-DADDY PAYOUT

At the same time he was too "depressed" to pay his taxes, Charles O'Byrne, the disgraced former top aide to Gov. Paterson, was able to bankroll his younger boyfriend's grad-school tuition.

O'Byrne quit his $178,500-a-year position as Paterson's chief-of-staff two weeks ago after The Post revealed he had failed to pay $293,000 in taxes over a five-year period.

His lawyers blamed clinical depression and "nonfiler's syndrome," a purported psychological affliction that turned O'Byrne, a 49-year-old, openly gay, ex-Jesuit priest, into a laughingstock.

But documents and interviews show that during the years O'Byrne was supposedly unable to pay the taxman, he opened his wallet to handsome graduate student Sridhar Venkatapuram, now a 37-year-old research fellow at University College London.

Venkatapuram, a Hyderabad, India-born scholar and gay activist, received a "tuition support/loan" "in excess of $1,000" in 2006 from O'Byrne, according to O'Byrne's financial disclosure statements.

O'Byrne filed late income-tax returns that year, the first time he filed anything since 2001. He didn't start making back payments until 2007, O'Byrne's lawyer said.

When Venkatapuram received the tuition money from O'Byrne, he was pursuing his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge and divided his time between the United Kingdom and O'Byrne's Stuyvesant Town apartment, documents show.

Venkatapuram, reached last week by phone at his office at University College London, where he is lecturing on "social justice," said, "I'm not really in touch with Charles O'Byrne anymore, and I don't want to talk about him. I have nothing to say."

Friends of O'Byrne confirmed that the two are no longer romantically involved.

O'Byrne was also a generous donor to gay-advocacy groups during his tax-scofflaw days.

On Oct. 20, he was a "leading patron," or $1,250 donor, at the Empire State Pride Agenda's fall dinner.

He paid off the remaining $3,641.85 he owed in taxes the next day.

O'Byrne declined comment.

Philip Johnson

Architect b. July 8, 1906 d. January 25, 2005 "The job of the architect today is to create beautiful buildings. That's all." Proportion, minimalism and geometry were elements Philip Johnson combined to create his masterpieces, which include iconic New York buildings. It seemed destined that Johnson, the descendant of Huguenot Jacques Cortelyou, who designed the town plan of New Amsterdam (later renamed New York), would leave an indelible mark on the city. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Johnson studied philosophy and history at Harvard. His education was regularly interrupted by long trips to Europe where he saw architecture that influenced his designs.

At New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), he co-curated an exhibition that tracked recent trends in building. The show, "The International Style: Architecture Since 1922," included Walter Gropius, Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe and provided the official introduction of modern architecture to the United States. During the Great Depression, Johnson pursued a career in journalism abroad. He subsequently enlisted in the U.S. Army. After his military service, Johnson enrolled in the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where he realized his passion for architecture. Philip Johnson's work is characterized by innovation. In a career spanning almost 60 years, he developed a reputation for flexibility and foresight.

Johnson founded the Department of Architecture and Design at MoMA and served as a trustee of the museum. He was awarded an American Institute of Architects Gold Medal (1978) and the first-ever Pritzker Architecture Prize (1979). The Glass House (1949), which he designed for himself, is a modest 56-foot-by-32-foot rectangle with exterior walls made almost entirely of glass. The building, in New Canaan, Connecticut, incorporates the bucolic setting as an integral part of the home's ambiance.

His other seminal works are the New York State Pavilion for the World's Fair (1964), MoMA's east wing and sculpture garden (1964), Pennzoil Place in Houston (1975), and the Sony Building in New York City (1984).

The architect shared the last 40 years of his life with his partner, David Whitney, who died only months after Johnson.

Lucas & Winger Wedding

MICHAEL LUCAS AND RICHARD WINGER ANNOUNCE MARRIAGE CEREMONY IN CALIFORNIA

Michael Lucas, the famous Russian-born gay porn performer, has announced he is getting married! (He's the pouty one in the pic above.) You might know him from his films Hunt & Plunge and Fire Island Cruising 1-8, or La Dolce Vita, which was filmed partially in the Marc Jacobs store—making it the gayest movie on record. His groom is Richard Winger, who the press release says is an "international businessman;" it also says the two met eight years ago at a "Holiday Party." They're using the wedding to fight for gay marriage rights throughout the country—or maybe to get attention from gay publications for putting that in the press release. Here is the official Press Release from Michael's Blog
Michael Lucas and Richard Winger are pleased to announce their upcoming marriage in Los Angeles, California. A private ceremony will be held in West Hollywood and performed by Councilmember John Duran. Michael Lucas is President and CEO of Lucas Entertainment, New York City’s largest gay adult production company. Richard Winger is an international businessman and President Emeritus of New York City’s LGBT Center. The occasion also celebrates the couple’s eight-year relationship together. The couple will use the event to host a fundraiser for Equality California, a leading statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights and advocacy organization. Through their “No On Prop 8” campaign the group has been spearheading the fight against the homophobic Proposition 8 initiative, which calls for the elimination of the right for same-sex couples to marry. While both individuals are prominent members of the gay and lesbian community in New York City, the couple must hold their ceremony in California at this time for two reasons. First, New York State does not acknowledge same-sex marriages performed within the state. Secondly, if Proposition 8 passes in November, California may not legally recognize their marriage. “I’m very excited about the upcoming ceremony, and I’m proud to be having it in a state that accepts our relationship,” said Lucas. “This is not only a declaration of our love, but as a way to show that gay people can marry just like heterosexual couples. While it’s difficult to believe these rights may be swept away by such ignorance, it’s moments such as this when we need to come together and fight for a cause.” “I have loved Michael for eight years, ever since we met at a Holiday Party, and I look forward to reaffirming our love and our relationship,” added Winger. The event will be attended primarily by members of the adult entertainment industry. Following their nuptials in California, the couple plans to commemorate the ceremony with a gathering in New York City in November.

Iran Does Have Gays

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: OK, we may have a few gays but we still hate Israel

Here is some shocking news: There are, in fact, gays in Iran. This report comes directly from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who last year famously claimed there are no homosexuals in his country. Questioned back then about his government's execution of gays, Ahmadinejad, the Holocaust denier and sworn enemy of Israel, denied homosexualitly even exists in Iran.

"We do not have this phenomenon," he declared. This week, Ahmadinejad finally conceded there "might be a few" gays in his country. Then he went on to blast homosexuality as an "unlikable and foreign act" that is illegal because it "shakes the foundations of society," "robs humanity" and "brings about disease." The Iranian leader made his stunning remarks in a 45-minute televised interview with myself and a fellow journalist for "Democracy Now," a morning news and public affairs show.

The interview took place in a room on the top floor of a midtown hotel where the president and his ample entourage stayed during his visit to the UN General Assembly. The room was jammed with Ahmadinejad's aides. A pack of Iranian journalists filmed and taped us as we asked him questions.

The president wore a gray suit and white, open-collared shirt and he began the interview with a short Muslim prayer. He spoke deliberately and in a low voice, sat with his hands folded in his lap, and flashed a wry smile whenever we asked an especially pointed question. "It should be of no pride to American society to say they defend something like this [homosexuality]," Ahmadinejad said. "Just because some people want to get votes, they are willing to overlook every morality." We confronted him with photos of two Iranian teenagers who were hanged in 2005 for being gay, human rights groups say. Iranian law doesn't call for executing gays, Ahmadinejad said. "Either they were drug traffickers or they killed someone else." What about freedom of dissent in Iran? Why had his government stepped up arrests of students, teachers and other critics? Why is Iran one of the few countries in the world that still executes juveniles? "Compared to the rest of the region and to the United States, we have a small number of prisoners," he said. As for executing juveniles, "the legal age in Iran is different from yours," he said. "If a person who happens to be 17 years old and 9 months kills one of your relatives, would you just overlook that?" His answer does not begin to explain why 26 of the last 32 juvenile executions worldwide were in Iran, according to Human Rights Watch. We talked about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and whether Ahmadinejad still espouses the destruction of Israel. Here, despite his fierce rhetoric, he seemed to leave a tiny opening. The "root cause" of the Middle East conflict, he insisted, is the "Zionist regime," which he called an "an illegitimate government." "Even with the passage of 60 years," Ahmadinejad said, "can we ignore the rights of the Palestinians," the "indigenous people" who he said were "displaced" by Israel's creation. If the Palestinian leaders agree to a two-state solution, could Iran live with an Israeli state? "Whatever the people decide, we will respect it," Ahmadinejad said with obvious reluctance. "If they [the Palestinians] want to keep the Zionists, they can stay." I asked if he was worried about a possible attack from Israel or the United States. "Mr. Bush is very interested to start a new war," but Iran is "very capable of defending itself," he said. "We think there are enough wise people in this country to prevent unreasonable actions by the administration." In fact, after the interview ended, Ahmadinejad met with several hundred American peace advocates the Iranian government invited to the hotel's Grand Ballroom. He denied Iran is developing atomic energy for anything other than peaceful purposes. Any effort to build atomic bombs, he said, would be "a waste of the people's money" and that money "could be better used on improving their lives." Even as he said that, the International Atomic Engergy Agency announced Iran has not fully cooperated with the agency's investigation into the "possible military dimensions" of its nuclear program. President Ahmadinejad may be telling the truth about his nuclear program, but his record of previous denials, along with iron-fisted policies toward his people, hardly inspires confidence. But at least we finally got that gay question out of the way.

Gay New York Music

Is the word QUEER offensive to you? How about FAGGOTY? Or is it like the "N"  word?  There is much debate about words and how they are used and who uses them. Two  of New Yorks gay entertainers and musical artists , Jonny "The Gay Pimp" McGovern and Adam Joseph are leaders in a new crop of revolutionary gay artists. With their outrageous records and gay music videos, they—along with a bevy of other talented twinkolicious divas— are ushering in a new genre of club hits to our nation's dance floors. Dubbed "faggot music," the colorful beats celebrate the 'F' word and encourage fans to reclaim their inner faggot. Many in the community—especially men under 30—are doing just that. But there are also many in the community who oppose the use of faggot in popular music and think it irresponsible of these artists to encourage gay youth to embrace the historically derogative word. The opposition has been vocal online for some time, initially targeting Jonny "The Gay Pimp" McGovern and his Gays Gone Wild album. But the finger wagging has shifted now to Adam Joseph whose "Faggoty Attention" video has reined supreme on LOGO-TV's Click List music countdown show for four weeks. Don't feel bad for Jonny, though. He's sure to be the lead target again when his latest release, "Don't Fall in Love with a Homo," hit  this summer. Love them or hate them, no one can argue one thing. These sparkly young artists are making people rethink the power of the "F" word!

Gay pop superstar, TV personality, and nightlife legend, "Gay Pimp" Jonny McGovern blazed onto the New York scene in 2000 with his satirical mix of his character comedy and dirty gay hits and his fire continues to burn bright. Jonny produced his debut album Dirty Gay Hits in collaboration with IDM producer, Secret Agent Gel. Together they crafted a collection of Gay Pimp themed songs such as Soccer Practice, Lookin’ Cute/Feelin’ Cute, and Hey Lil' Raver Boi. Jonny then created a dirty gay teen pop style nightclub act with a bevy of soccer/raver boi dancers, a gay rapper, and fierce drag queens workin' the runway. Jonny headlined all over Manhattan including Homocorps at the legendary CBGB's, Joe's Pub, Splash Bar NY, LUXX and opened for Peaches and Chicks on Speed at The Electro Clash Festival as well as at his own white hot parties such as Boys Gone Wild and The Rambles at The Park. The Gay Pimp became an Internet and international phenomenon. broke into TV with several high profile gigs. Comedy Central’s Out On The Edge, hosted by Alan Cumming brought Jonny’s Gay Pimp revue to a national TV audience. For an entire season, Ricki Lake highlighted his comedy and solidified his status as a ghetto superstar. In  2006, Jonny conquered another format with his weekly podcast Gay Pimpin’ with Jonny McGovern, the most popular gay/weekly/comedy show on iTunes. He continues his gay world domination with his latest CD, KEEP IT FAGGITY: THE GAY PIMP REMIX PROJECT, a ten track album featuring brand new remixes of Jonny "The Gay Pimp" McGovern's most popular gay hits.  He is also a cast menber of the new sketch comedy show The Big Gay Sketch Show produced by Rosie O’Donnell for the LOGO television network. ADAM JOSEPH on the other hand has a very different voice and style.   Don't let the baby face fool you. This blue eyed soul singer has exploded onto the scene with a debut that has music insiders comparing him to the likes of Anita Baker, Jill Scott, and Erykah Badu. The result is a smart blend of soul and pop, catchy hooks and deep heartfelt lyrics. With a big gay twist! A  rare find in the world of music today. Not only does he write, produce, engineer, arrange, and play on all of his recordings, but he also managed to release and distribute his first album independently through his self-owned record label, JAH Records (established in 2003).

His  single “You're Mine" sat at  # 1 on Logo's Click List for 4 weeks, and his eight track maxi-single "Faggoty Attention" garnering just that, East Village celebutante and Jah Records recording artist Adam Joseph is indeed "carrying on a long history of Faggot Music" just as he out and proudly proclaims in his bio. A frequent guest on the unapologetically dirty original podcast program Gay Pimpin’ with Jonny McGovern, where he talk about everything from locker room masturbation to bumps in the DJ booth, twinkalicious Adam Joseph  has worked on Jonny McGovern’s two albums, This Is NYC Bitch! The East Village Mix Tape and Gays Gone Wild. He moved to New York City where he created “Elegant Children Productions”, his own production company. Currently, Adam provides beats and songs for an entire downtown culture of rising Hip-Hop, Rock, and Dance Music personalities, all the while continuing to pursue his own career as a recording artist and songwriter. Adam reaches across many genres of music, continuously proving himself as not just a singer, but also a well-rounded musician, songwriter and producer.
