San Diego Pride

GC-SanDiegoPrideTH.jpgWe admit to having a little bit of a prejudice against the more conservative city to our south, but after a major gay bashing that occurred just after San Diego Pride in 2006, and after a man was shot by police during this year's festivities, Gay Pride in San Diego isn't at the top of our list of fave destinations.  In fairness, the man was shot following an incident on a boat during a post-pride chartered dance-and-booze cruise, not during the parade itself. And it sounds like the man was both drunk (he had fallen/jumped off of the boat and had to be rescued) and resisting arrest (he took one of the officers' Tasers and was also, allegedly, reaching for his gun). Still, it's not the best PR for the city's gay life, and it still sounds like the cops might have fucked up here (the victim was, after all, some drunk fag who fell off a boat).

The man was pronounced dead, and identified as Steven Paul Hirschfield of West Hollywood, who, near as we can tell, was a sometimes actor with a single, possibly soft-core B-movie credit to his name.
UPDATE: That did all, perhaps, sound overly negative. But we don't honestly believe that guy was such a serious threat to the cops that they needed to kill him (we believe the rulebooks say they should be trying to wound, not kill, and we think the black community of New York City would feel us on this... ). Anyway, there are plenty of happy gays living happily in SD, and here are some photos of the happier moments of San Diego's Pride parade on Saturday before that whole messy shooting incident, c/o Alexsander7, Mistress Pussycat and San Francisco Fred on Flickr. San Francisco & New York Pride

GC-PrideSFRoundupTH.jpgWe know. You're tired. Your head hurts and you have some existential malaise to beat the band. Half the people we know in SF make it an annual tradition to schedule the Monday after Pride as a vacation day from work, but here in the sweet sweet flesh and culture mines GorgeousBoys we are hard at work pulling together our shameful documentation from this past (all together now) Big! Gay! Pride! weekend in San Francisco, New York (where it was stormy!), Chicago, Paris and elsewhere. We're starting off with some pictures taken for The Sword by SF photographer and Flickr legend Darwin Bell of the festivities in our favorite Left Coast city, and we shall roll out the rest of what we've got in the next 24 hours--there is more coming for New York, even more from SF, and we've got some stuff from Paris and Chicago too.
CLICK THUMBNAILS TO ENLARGE. SOME ARE NSFW. LA PRIDE 2008

Hot guys in their undies at the 2008 LA Pride Parade.

Hot guys in their undies at the 2008 LA Pride Parade.

Less than a week out from the legalisation of gay marriage in California, close to 200,000 people are estimated to have turned out for the annual Los Angeles Pride parade at the weekend.

Colour, and lots of it, was the main theme of a lot of the costumes that were on display atop the pride parade’s many floats. Turning out for the parade were the usual smattering of drag queens and muscled guys in their tightest underwear. While there were some anti-gay and anti-gay-rights protestors in attendance, the parade took place largely without incident. The parade took place in West Hollywood, an area of Los Angeles with a large gay population. Sheriff’s Captain Buddy Goldman, who is in charge of the sheriff’s department’s West Hollywood station, told the Los Angeles Times that he thought there was “a renewed energy in the [gay] community about gay marriage. There really is an upbeat feeling.” Don't forget... GorgeousBoys will be front and centre at the gay pride events in New York City, Atlanta and San Francisco over this northern summer - so keep an eye out for our stalls!

Another Pride Season Kicks Off

GC-PrideParadeSched08TH.jpgGet out your beads and call your dealer: it has begun. Las Vegas already had theirs, like, two weeks ago and May 18th marked the beginning of the non-Nevada gay pride season, which starts in Long Beach and doesn't end until fucking November when Palm Springs has theirs. We swear we are proud, sometimes. And we know it's important for all you suburban and rural gays to strap on those Camel Baks full of vodka and descend on your nearest metropolis to drink and dance amongst throngs of your own for the first time since last year. We totally can't wait.
As for us, we're probably going to be slightly embarrassed all weekend like we usually are, wondering if too much blatant pride doesn't make one want to circle back to shame, while everyone wanders around muttering "Happy pride" and oscillating between hungover and drunk for three days straight.  Maybe after the Harvey Milk movie comes out the younger generation will learn why all this parading started in the first place, and pick up new vocab words like "Stonewall" and "Anita Bryant."  Anyway, here's a quick schedule so you can plan ahead (Boise pride is da bomb, yo).
Also, just a side note: GorgeousBoys and Naked Sword, will be sending out street teams including Falcon stars and hot male models. Check back after each sordid weekend is through for our exclusive footage from each event. * indicates that we'll be there for the festivities.   Join Us For PrideAlbuquerque, NM (Albuquerque Pride 2008)  June 13 - 14 Amsterdam, Netherlands (Amsterdam Pride 2008) Aug 1 - Aug 3 Atlanta, GA* (Atlanta Pride Festival 2008) July 4 - 6 Austin, TX (Austin Pride Parade 2008) June 14 Baltimore, MD * (Baltimore Pride 2008) June 21 - 22 Bangkok, Thailand (Bangkok Together 2008) Nov 1 - Nov 9 Barcelona, Spain (Barcelona Pride 2008) March 19 - 24 Berlin, Germany (Christopher Street Day Berlin) June 28 Boise, ID (Boise Idaho Pride) June 6 - 8 Boston, MA* (Boston Pride 2008) June 6 - 15 Charlotte, NC * (Pride Charlotte 2008) July 26 Chicago, IL* (PRIDEChicago 2008) June 29 Cologne, Germany (ColognePride 2008) June 21 - July 6 Copenhagen, Denmark (Copenhagen Pride 2008) August 11 - 16 Dallas, TX* (Dallas Pride 2008) Sept 21 Denver, CO (Denver Pridefest 2008) June 21 - 22 Detroit, MI (Motor City Pride) June 1 Dublin, Ireland (Dublin Pride 2008) June 13 - 22 El Paso, TX (El Paso Sun City Pride) June 5 - 8 EuroPride 08 (in Stockholm) July 25 - Aug 3 Frankfurt, Germany (Christopher Street Day 2008) July 18 - 20 Harrisburg, PA (Harrisburg PrideFest 2008) July 26 Hartford, CT (2008 Connecticut LGBTI Pride Festival) June 7 Houston, TX (Pride Houston) June 28 Iowa City, IA (Iowa City LGBT Pride) June 16 Indianapolis, IN (IndyPride!) The Long Beach Pride Was A Hit !

[Gallery not found]Record heat for Long Beach Pride festival Ms. Lola didn't let the record-breaking 93- degree heat on Saturday cramp her style. The 6-foot-tall drag queen, clad in a white lace gown and a monstrous Dolly Parton-like wig, stayed cool with a fan, parasol and a handkerchief wedged daintily in her padded cleavage. "I have some things to keep me cool," she said. "When you're a queen and proud of who you are, you keep going. And you still look fabulous at the end of the day." Sweltering temperatures didn't stop the party at the 25th annual Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride Festival, which kicked off at 11 a.m. Saturday in Rainbow Lagoon Park.
