Are The Effects of Pornography Negligible? (men don't want their partner to look like a porn star)

the-internet-is-for-pornA Université de Montréal researcher, funded by the Interdisciplinary Research Center on Family Violence and Violence Against Women, has launched a new study to examine the effects of pornography on men. "We started our research seeking men in their twenties who had never consumed pornography. We couldn't find any," says Simon Louis Lajeunesse, a postdoctoral student and professor at the School of Social Work. "The objective of my work is to observe the impact of pornography on the sexuality of men, and how it shapes their perception of men and women," says Lajeunesse. To do so, he has so far recruited and interviewed 20 heterosexual male university students who consume pornography. "They shared their sexual history starting with their first contact with pornography, which was in early adolescence. Not one subject had a pathological sexuality. In fact, all of their sexual practices were quite conventional," says Lajeunesse. The research concluded that 90 percent of pornography is consumed on the Internet, while 10 percent comes from video stores. On average, single men watch pornography three times a week for 40 minutes. Those who are in committed relationships watch it on average 1.7 times a week for 20 minutes. Lajeunesse found most boys seek out pornographic material by the age of 10, when they are most sexually curious. However, they quickly discard what they don't like and find offensive. As adults, they will continue to look for content in tune with their image of sexuality. They also rarely consume pornography as a couple and always choose what they watch. All test subjects said they supported gender equality and felt victimized by rhetoric demonizing pornography. "Pornography hasn't changed their perception of women or their relationship which they all want as harmonious and fulfilling as possible. Those who could not live out their fantasy in real life with their partner simply set aside the fantasy. The fantasy is broken in the real world and men don't want their partner to look like a porn star," says Lajeunesse. Lajeunesse refutes the perverse effect often attributed to pornography. "Aggressors don't need pornography to be violent and addicts can be addicted to drugs, alcohol, gaming and asocial cases are pathological. If pornography had the impact that many claim it has, you would just have to show heterosexual films to a homosexual to change his sexual orientation." Source: University of Montreal

Ending Affiliate Commissions

heatseek300 The newest Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox include a privacy feature that has a lot of webmasters concerned about losing their monthly affiliate commissions. "Private browsing" will prevent browsers from retaining browsing history, temporary Internet files, saved passwords, search history and — of greatest concern to webmasters — cookies. Cookies are used by most affiliate programs to track which affiliate referred a surfer, so when they are erased by the browsers, affiliates no longer will receive signup credit if the surfer joins a site at any point in the future. As a result, the existing business model will need to adapt — and pronto because IE 8 and Firefox 3.1 are already being downloaded to consumer-end users.

ie8

The purpose of private browsing is to prevent any information from being retained after the browser is closed — i.e. nothing is written to disk. Microsoft and Mozilla avidly promote that private browsing has many different use cases, such as researching a medical condition or shopping for a surprise birthday gift. But in actuality, there's only one major use case: porn surfing. In fact, tech bloggers already have dubbed the feature "porn mode."

Private browsing is not the default setting on any browser; users have to enable it by pressing a button or selecting it from a menu. When enabled, the browser launches a new session and copies all existing cookies into memory. Any new cookies acquired during the session are deleted when the session ends. This basically reduces all cookies to "session" cookies that expire when the user closes the browsing session. In terms of affiliate marketing, affiliates mostly will have to rely on users clicking on an affiliate link and signing up during the same browser session. If a user clicks on a link before beginning a private session and signs up during the session, the affiliate still will get credit. But if a user clicks on a link during a private session and signs up anytime afterward — for example, an hour later they open a new browser in either private or nonprivate mode, then sign up — the purchase won't be tracked. IE and Firefox are not the first browsers to introduce this feature. Apple's Safari has had the feature for some time, and Google's Chrome browser includes a similar "incognito" mode. However, with a combined market share of 80 percent, the new releases of IE and Firefox will make a huge impact as users really begin to adopt the new functionality. How fast will users adopt the new browser versions? Microsoft and Mozilla use auto-update mechanisms that are very effective. For comparison, looking back at the release of Internet Explorer 7 in October 2006, users updated at a rate of 1.2 million a day, reaching a 30 percent market share within five months. Assuming a similar trajectory, and also making the assumptions that one in three users will adopt private browsing while surfing porn and that 50 percent of purchases will be lost because of cookie deletion, we arrive at the following projections: By the end of 2009, affiliates around the world would lose 9.17 percent of their commissions. By the end of 2010, the loss would approach 12.5 percent.

affiliatemarketing

So how will the affiliate-marketing model adapt to these changes? There are three potential fallouts: The first is simply a market solution. Affiliates will continue working with sponsors, knowing that a portion of their sales are continuously lost. This already is happening on a small scale as a result of users who have manually disabled cookies. Sponsors even might compensate for the loss by raising their payouts. The second possibility is that affiliates could pressure sponsors to convert to a publisher/advertiser model, which does not depend on cookies. Affiliates simply would get paid for ad impressions or clicks instead of actual signups. Many affiliates already are doing this with part of their ad inventory, and the trend could move considerably in this direction. This would complicate matters for many sponsors because the quality of clicks and impressions varies greatly, and sponsors would need to track their affiliates' performance constantly. A third possibility is for affiliates to persuade their users to adopt their own browsers. One site doing just that is xPeeps. By promoting its own xPeeps browser — powered by HeatSeek.com — the site is able to provide its users with the same privacy features they want, while retaining all the affiliate credit. The HeatSeek software allows users to surf in private but preserves all cookies normally across uses. The relationship also helps xPeeps to increase user retention because the xPeeps browser always starts on the xPeeps home page, thereby continuously turning visitors into return visitors.

heatseekon

Heatseek is a pornography focused browser that quietly launched. The point of this software is to make porn browsing more efficient and more secure. The browser is available on Windows machines only, and is built on top of Internet Explorer. They’ve clearly thought this through. Every feature is aimed at either making porn consumption easier or making it less likely that others will know what you are up to. I’ll walk through some of the features first and save my editorial for the end. On the security side: Credentials are needed just to open the browser. Downloaded files are encrypted and viewable only through Heatseek. They do their best to eliminate popups, spyware and viruses. Finally, they’ve even included a panic button to shut down the application immediately. On the ease-of-consumption side: Downloading of images and videos is assumed, and can be accomplished with a single click. As mentioned above, these files are encrypted and can only be opened within Heatseek. Downloaded files can be organized in, well, playlists, and can be dragged and dropped to reorganize. They’ve included a bookmark feature that allows users to quickly jump to their “favorite” scene.

Heatseek is also guaranteeing that their software contains no spyware.

heatseek

The basic version of Heatseek is free, with a premium version available for a one time fee. The main feature of the premium version is that it allows the user to unencrypt downloaded files and move them directly to the hard drive for use in other browsers and media players. The premium version also allows users to access “special content”. The Heatseek team is making significant efforts to remain anonymous, although there is at least one tie to another browser startup - the Mozilla-based media browser Songbird. Rob Lord, the founder of Songbird, is also a shareholder and board member of Heatseek. A note to would-be users: Many employers  install monitoring software on computers that Heatseek will not bypass. A note to my fellow webmasters: Start promoting HeatSeek on your site and begin to require your affiliates to provide you with more better ways to ensure you won't lose sales. The best affiliate programs are those that allow users to sign-up for free using an email address. When sales occur from that email address you will always get credit regardless of cookies - as long as your guys maintains that email address you are all set ! You can also see where this article was ran on a April 6, 2009 Edition of XBIZ.com. Tole at Heatseek is the author of The End of Affiliate Commissions. I have supplemented this article with the Heatseek review which would not appear in the printed version made by XBix.

Clarke's Saint Bryan Kocis

brentpoolboyRecent discussions about the personal background of murder victim and twink barebacking porn producer, Bryan Kocis are erupting on the Internet in a recent open letter by Kevin Clarke. To view Kevin's open letter visit our friend, Dewayne in San Diego's blog. Below you will find the background of Bryan Kocis which leads up to Clarke's letter where Clarke sets the record straight about the real nature of Bryan Kocis. In August 2003 through February 2004, Bryan Kocis cast Sean Lockhart, a young model, in Cobra's Every Poolboy's Dream giving him the stage name of "Brent Corrigan". Corrigan quickly went on to become the most famous, and most lucrative, of Kocis' stable of actors. On September 13, 2005, Corrigan's attorney announced publicly that Corrigan was underage when he filmed those scenes for Cobra Video, and had used a fake ID to participate in those scenes. Corrigan went on to state that Kocis was aware of his underage status. Cobra denied that they were ever aware of such allegations and publicly stated that they had copies of Corrigan's ID's claiming a birth year of 1985. A civil lawsuit between the two parties erupted soon after. bryankocis2Bryan Kocis was found dead on January 24, 2007, after a fire at his Pennsylvania home. According to the investigating coroner, Kocis was stabbed 28 times and his throat was cut, nearly decapitating him. His body was also left in the house before it was set on fire. A folding-style knife was found nearby. Officials had to use dental records to identify Kocis because his body was burned beyond recognition. On May 15, 2007, two Virginia Beach escorts, Harlow Cuadra and Joseph Kerekes, were arrested and charged with Kocis' murder. On December 8, 2008, Kerekes pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, theft, tampering with or fabricating evidence, and criminal conspiracy, and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Jury selection for Cuadra's trial began on February 17, 2009 and the trial began one week later. On February 27th, Brent Corrigan testified for the prosecution about his dealings with Kerekes and Cuadra. Throughout the trial, Cuadra claimed that Kerekes controlled his life, equating their relationship with Stockholm syndrome. He also claimed that Kerekes was the one who murdered Kocis and that he wanted to go to police, but Kerekes kept him from doing so. On March 12, 2009, Cuadra was found guilty of all the charges against him, including first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, arson, robbery, and tampering with or fabricating evidence. On March 16th, he was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Following the trial Bryan Kocis' sister named, Melody, purported to make a public comment on the Harlow & Joe On Trial Blog as follows:
Those of us who have been fortunate to be in Bryan’s life know what a kind, caring, loving, generous and loyal person he was, and for those of you who didn’t know him it’s your loss. Bryan was a good, honest person in a bad, dishonest business. He was known for giving everyone the benefit of the doubt. Bryan made mistakes, but he was a victim of horrible crime, and it was sad how many people forgot that. Sean Lockhart was Bryan’s biggest mistake. He cared for Sean very much, and Sean did nothing but hurt him. I was with Bryan when Sean told him he wasn’t coming back to finish his contract with Cobra, and that he was starting his own company. Bryan just bought him a car. I will never forget how upset Bryan was. Unfortunately Bryan is not here to tell his side of the story.
peter_parker_skip_roomIn 2002, police found a videotape of Bryan Kocis, then 39, and a 15-year-old boy in his home. Kocis met the boy on the internet and transported him to his hometown. Kocis pled guilty to one count of Sexual Abuse of a Child. He was initially charged with child pornography, and transportation of a minor for sexual purposes. Since the boy had lied about his age Kocis was given a probation sentence. In 2006 a judge signed paperwork changing Kocis' charge from sex assault to corruption of minors. Kocis' former attorney, Al Flora, said the change was made because the original charge of sexual assault of a child was a mistake and that, "We didn't realize there was an error until 2006." Flora said his former client was a legitimate businessman and not at all a pedophile. Kocis was not required to be registered as a Megan's Law offender. kevinclarkeKevin Clarke (Photo at left Kevin Clarke,Jerry Douglas,George DuRoy) who has spent 15 years in the Gay Porn buisness directing some of the top selling Gay Adult DVD's shares his very unique perspective on Bryan Kocis. Blacklist of Gay Websites

aussiegayA blacklist of banned websites drawn up by the Australian government includes gay sites. The government is proposing a law that requires internet service providers to filter and block inappropriate content, such as that related to terrorism and abusive images of children. It has drawn up a list of sites to be blacklisted. However, webpages such as gay and straight porn sites, YouTube links and certain Wikipedia entries have been included in its scope. The blacklist of about 2,395 banned sites was obtained by Wikileaks, a website which allows anonymous whistleblowers to leak official documents. Wikileaks published the list on its website, having previously revealed the blacklists from Denmark, Norway and Thailand. We are wondering if the GorgeousBoys Online Entertainment and our other online web partners are on the list.  I've had difficulty accessing the now published list. It would seem their server is overloaded with web requests. The Sydney Morning Herald also gained access to the list and stated about half of the banned websites are not associated with child pornography.

internetcensor

The sites include online poker portals, YouTube links, gay and straight porn sites, Wikipedia entries, euthanasia pages and the homepages of private companies and medical practitioners. The founder of Wikileaks, Julian Assange, told the newspaper that secret censorship systems were “invariably corrupted.” He pointed to the example of more than 1,200 sites criticising the Thai royal family which were on the Thailand censorship list, originally created to prevent child pornography. Mr Assange obtained the blacklist after ACMA added Wikileaks to its blacklist following the site’s decision to publish the Danish blacklist. The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is investigating the leak of the blacklist and considering a range of actions including possible criminal prosecution. Senator Stephen Conroy, the communications minister, told the Sydney Morning Herald the leak and publication of the blacklist would be "grossly irresponsible" and undermine efforts to improve cyber safety.
Senator Conroy said: "Under existing laws the ACMA blacklist includes URLs relating to child sexual abuse, rape, incest, bestiality, sexual violence and detailed instruction in crime. No one interested in cyber safety would condone the leaking of this list."
The blacklist is provided to makers of internet filtering software that parents are able to install on their PCs. However, if the government proceeds with its proposed internet filtering scheme, sites on the blacklist will be blocked for all Australians. Self-Perceived Effects of Pornography Consumption reportsThe self-perceived effects of ‘‘hardcore’’ pornography consumption were studied in a large representative sample of young adult  men aged 18–30. Using a survey that included the newly developed Pornography Consumption Effect Scale, this report assessed participants’ reports of how pornography has affected them personally in various areas, including their sexual knowledge, attitudes toward sex, attitudes toward and perception of the opposite sex, sex life, and general quality of life.  READ FULL REPORT HERE

Red and Blue Porn

porn

Americans may paint themselves in increasingly bright shades of red and blue, but new research finds one thing that varies little across the nation: the liking for online pornography.A new nationwide study (pdf) of anonymised credit-card receipts from a major online adult entertainment provider finds little variation in consumption between states."When it comes to adult entertainment, it seems people are more the same than different," says Benjamin Edelman at Harvard Business School. However, there are some trends to be seen in the data. Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption, the study finds. "Some of the people who are most outraged turn out to be consumers of the very things they claimed to be outraged by," Edelman says. Political divide
Edelman spends part of his time helping companies such as Microsoft and AOL detect advertising fraud. Another consulting client runs dozens of adult websites, though he says he is not at liberty to identify the firm. That company did, however, provide Edelman with roughly two years of credit card data from 2006 to 2008 that included a purchase date and each customer's postal code. After controlling for differences in broadband internet access between states – online porn tends to be a bandwidth hog – and adjusting for population, he found a relatively small difference between states with the most adult purchases and those with the fewest. The biggest consumer, Utah, averaged 5.47 adult content subscriptions per 1000 home broadband users; Montana bought the least with 1.92 per 1000. "The differences here are not so stark," Edelman says. Number 10 on the list was West Virginia at 2.94 subscriptions per 1000, while number 41, Michigan, averaged 2.32. Eight of the top 10 pornography consuming states gave their electoral votes to John McCain in last year's presidential election – Florida and Hawaii were the exceptions. While six out of the lowest 10 favoured Barack Obama. Old-fashioned values
Church-goers bought less online porn on Sundays – a 1% increase in a postal code's religious attendance was associated with a 0.1% drop in subscriptions that day. However, expenditures on other days of the week brought them in line with the rest of the country, Edelman finds.Residents of 27 states that passed laws banning gay marriages boasted 11% more porn subscribers than states that don't explicitly restrict gay marriage. To get a better handle on other associations between social attitudes and pornography consumption, Edelman melded his data with a previous study on public attitudes toward religion. States where a majority of residents agreed with the statement "I have old-fashioned values about family and marriage," bought 3.6 more subscriptions per thousand people than states where a majority disagreed. A similar difference emerged for the statement "AIDS might be God's punishment for immoral sexual behaviour." "One natural hypothesis is something like repression: if you're told you can't have this, then you want it more," Edelman says.
