OK, if you just happen to glance at Lady Gaga not knowing who she is, you might think "Whoa! Lady is crazy!" But if you know who Lady Gaga is, you know that while she's a bit eccentric, she's an amazing artist and actually quite intelligent. And of course she is one of our Gay Divas ... so loved by us Well, Westboro Baptist church actually thinks Lady Gaga is a God-hater and God hates Lady Gaga, too.Sigh. Can they really not find anyone better to pick on? Sure, Lady Gaga is kind of strange. Yes, she dresses in odd outfits. And it's true she has a lot of gay and lesbian fans. But does that somehow make Lady Gaga a God-hater? One Baptist church thinks so and plans to picket Gaga's concert on January 7 at the Fox Theater in Missouri. The church, led by Reverend Fred Phelps, claims Lady Gaga is leading a revolution against God and will be going to hell. Oh, and for followers of Lady Gaga? She's actually bringing "them into slavery to their own corruption, teaching them to glory in their shame." And "She hates you!" Wow. We love Lady Gaga because she's so different; not to mention, she's super sweet and not harming a soul as far as we can see.I have a feeling this isn't really bothering Lady Gaga too much, but it could be a huge annoyance to fans trying to attend her Missouri concert. Though I can't imagine too many people will show up to picket her show. And the mayor of St. Louis, Missouri, Francis Slay, actually has a sense of humor about the matter and says, "I hope her fans have fun and spend lots of money here. Other than that, there's 'Nothing Else I Can Say (eh eh)." So, it looks like even the mayor knows who Lady Gaga is!Fred Phelps, the leader of Westboro Baptist Church, best known for picketing the funerals of deceased soldiers and trying to deny equal rights to gays and lesbians, has turned his attention and PR machine to pop culture by calling Lady Gaga a ’slut.’
“Her claim to the title of ‘Lady’ is sound only if she tacks on ‘of the night.’ Does the simple slut truly think she can change God’s standards by seducing a generation of rebels into joining her in fist-raised, stiff-necked, hard-hearted rebellion against Him? Get real!”
The group even plans to picket her concert at Fox Theatre in Missouri on January 7th. Do you think Fred Phelps and his Baptist church will have an effect on Lady Gaga or that nothing can stop her now?
Gay rights activists are calling for the mayor of Vallejo, California, to be censured after he called gay people "sinful".Mayor Osby Davis was quoted by the New York Times as saying: “They’re [gay people] committing sin and that sin will keep them out of heaven. But you don’t hate the person. You hate the sin that they commit.”Davis is a a devout Assemblies of God follower. On Tuesday, he released a statement apologising for the comments. He said: “I have worked hard to unite Vallejo and I will continue to do so. To those I have offended by my comments, I apologise. My words were taken out of context."I care for the entire community and my desire is to build consensus on our diversity. Let me be clear, I have and will stand against hatred, discrimination and divisiveness wherever they exist.”Gay rights activists were not placated by the apology and have organised a rally outside the mayor's offices on December 1st.Charles Legalos, a former planning commissioner, told the Oakland Tribune: “His comments were completely out of line. They have no place coming from a city official."Davis won the 2007 mayoral election by two votes against former council official and out gay man Gary Cloutier.Cloutier said he was repeatedly introduced as "a gay" and accused the council of being awash with anti-gay sentiment.
The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) is effectively rejecting what they call Chris Jericho's "insincere and worn" apology for using anti-gay and racist slurs at a recent film festival. Chris is shown in the image to the left.GLAAD president Jarrett Barrios issued the following statement to TMZ.com this afternon:"Just three months ago Chris Jericho's boss and WWE Chairman Vince McMahon acknowledged to GLAAD that words matter. There is no time, context or occasion in which it is acceptable to utter racist and anti-gay slurs. Jericho's hollow apology 'if (he) offended anyone' is a template used by many and is insincere and worn."** VIDEO: WATCH Chris Jericho's Rant - What Was He Thinking?!
Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson has used three anti-gay slurs in the past 24 hours after he was confronted about using his Twitter account to rip his head coach Todd Haley. When reporters entered the Chiefs locker room on Monday, Johnson said he was not answering any questions until Thursday. He then uttered this under his breath, according to radio station KCSP and Kent Babb of the Kansas City Star:
“Get your faggot asses out of here.”
Last night, when Johnson got into a Twitter spat with a fan, he called the fan a “fag,” according to Yahoo Sports, which monitored the exchange:
“think bout a clever diss then that wit ur fag pic. Christopher street boy. Is what us east coast cats call u.”
“Christopher street boy” is an obvious reference to gays for the Christopher Street gay pride parade in New York. The fan made mention of Johnson pleading guilty after allegedly spitting in the face of a female bar patron.Johnson went off on Twitter (his account, once public, is now private) after the Chiefs (1-6) lost to San Diego, 37-7. He wrote that his father had more experience than first-year Chiefs head coach Todd Haley:
“My father played for the coach from “rememeber the titans”. Our coach played golf. My father played for redskins briefley. Our coach. Nuthn”
Johnson has had four arrests for various degrees of battery since being drafted by the Chiefs in 2003. One charge was pled down, with Johnson serving time in a domestic violence diversion program. A second charge was dropped, while two other charges - including the aforementioned spitting incident - were reduced to disturbing the peace. Johnson received probation for a guilty plea in the latter two charges.
“Fag,” “Faggot” and “Christopher street boy.” The NFL (if not the Chiefs) must fine and suspend Larry Johnson or else it condones the use of such language by its players.STORY FROM OUTSPORTS
Vince McMahon may have been joking around on Raw, but his comments from Monday night have upset GLAAD. The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation has posted on their blog that they are upset that Vince McMahon "belittled" the Cirque du Soleil performers that appeared on Monday Night Raw by saying that the masks they were wearing were "really gay". You can read the full blog here. Here are some of the highlights…

"McMahon here wasn't implying the performers were gay, however, he used the term in a derogatory manner. It's just another example of how people throw around the word "gay" derisively."
"This came from the leader of a $500 million-plus organization who holds a lot of power in what he says and what he does."
"WWE programming reaches 16 million viewers each week. McMahon needs to understand that the words he uses and how he uses them can greatly affect people's lives."
A Los Angeles cutie boy on vacation in Ocean City, New Jersey stopped for a Tarot card reading on the Boardwalk. But card reader June Mitchell's dire prediction about her client's hereafter led to a public dust-up, a police investigation and a petition drive, the Press of Atlantic City reports.Mitchell told client Jamie Cohen (photo above), 22, who is gay, that he was going to hell. After hearing a little more from Mitchell, Cohen stormed out without paying her $20 fee, and that's when things got really ugly.According to the news account, Cohen returned to retrieve his cell phone, which he had left under his chair. He says Mitchell ordered him out of the store and, in front of a crowd, used an anti-gay slur. Mitchell admits using the word, but says Cohen called her a Gypsy; Cohen denies this. Mitchell also says she was upset by Cohen's reaction to the reading and the way he left without paying.Mitchell says she had not meant to offend him. "I wanted to make him happy," she says. A born-again Christian, Mitchell says her religious doctrine opposes homosexuality.
Kid Rock doesn't have any interest in Twitter, saying, "It's gay," presumably in the sixth-grade sense of the word, the New York Post reports. The hard rocker proved that he won't be suckered into the latest trends, whether those trends are social networking or avoiding slurs based on sexual orientation. And don't ask him about it, either. If you do, he'll tell you to "Twitter this."Kid Rock is saving all his ideas for his albums. If he has a thought worth sharing he's "going to bottle it up and then squeeze it onto a record somewhere." Unfortunately, Kid Rock also said, "I don't have anything to say, and what I have to say is not that relevant." I'm not sure what that means for his records, but it doesn't sound like Twitter is missing much due to his absence.
"It's gay. If one more person asks me if I have a Twitter, I'm going to tell them, 'Twitter this bitch, motherfucker.'
"I don't have anything to say, and what I have to say is not that relevant. Anything that is relevant, I'm going to bottle it up and then squeeze it onto a record somewhere."
Two people say they were the victims of a brutal hate crime in Ogden, Utah. They think they were targeted because they are gay. According to the Standard Examiner, Whitney Goich, 20, and Wil Phillips, 24, were assaulted early Tuesday morning in separate attacks at 3455 Harrison Blvd. Goich and Phillips didn’t know each other, but both say the suspect shouted anti-gay slurs during the attacks. Goich was walking into the apartment complex around 2:30 a.m. to visit a friend when a man approached her and hit her in the face, breaking her nose. A short time later, Phillips was attacked inside a friend’s apartment in the complex. Phillips said his friend knows the suspect, who also lives in the complex. Phillips said the suspect kicked and stomped on him. His injuries did not require medical attention.Read the full story from KSL.com.
It has been a nine month process but the customers that were the target of gay slurs by employees at a Kentucky McDonald’s have won.9 months ago Ryan Marlatt, Teddy Eggers, and three other friends had stopped for lunch at a McDonald’s restaurant on East Market Street while visiting Louisville, Kentucky for the weekend. While waiting for their order, an employee behind the counter referred to them as “faggots” to another employee. When Marlatt and Eggers objected to the slur and asked to speak with a manager, the employee began arguing with them. Things escalated and the employee repeatedly called them “faggots” in front of other customers and called one of them a “cocksucker” and “bitch.”Today, McDonald’s agreed to a cash settlement of $2,000 each and diversity training for management at 30 of it’s Louisville-area locations.
The gorgeous but we would assume he's straight, Austrian hockey player Oliver Setzinger, was caught on tape during a loss to Denmark arguing with a fan.Setzinger took a trip to the penalty box in the third period against the Danes and television audio picked up his verbal exchanges with a fan from Denmark. The announcers seemed to get a kick out of it when he asked the fan “Do you suck cock?” and “Are you gay?” on semi-live European TV.What we don’t know is whether Setzinger was tossing a slur, or trying to pick up the fan and wanted some more info. Assuming this wasn't a pickup line it certainly is a homophobic one. I guess we can learn two things from this clip. English is the international language of trash talk and no matter what country you come from, the default zinger is to always accuse your opponent of being a homo.
In his feud with 50 Cent, Rick Ross has spent a lot of time implying that 50 is gay, and employing deragatory terms for gays. In the video below, instead of actually apologizing to anyone he might have offended, he takes the mature, professional step and goes on to repeat all of the slurs he's used, then iterates his claim that 50 Cent is gay by referring to him as an "openly gay artist." It also seems worth mentioning that he does all this appearing in Jabba the Hutt esque fashion, shirtless with a towel draped around his shoulder. A video blog above and on AllStarHipHop.com was apparently made on Saturday shows the 33-year-old Ross smoking a blunt and apologizing for his homophobic language.
"I heard I offended the homosexual community recently with terms I've been using the last few weeks -- terms, like 'fags,' 'punks,' 'homos,' gays,' we all know. And what I want to say is I apologize. I sincerely apologize to the gay community, to the people I offended with the words like 'fags,' 'gays,' 'punks.' You know, words like that. I apologize. And just to let the gay community know how sincere I am with my apologies, I'm offering and willing to do a record with a openly gay artist such as Curly, Curtis Jackson, 50 Cent. We all know he's gay. I'm willing to do a song ... even Elton John ... both two great gay artists ... so I apologize to the gay community. That's from the boss ... Now all the gays, we good. Peace."
