Michael Lucas Will Be Your Gay Travel Guide to Tel Aviv

Gay porn star/director/producer, Michael Lucas is about to add tour guide to his resume – the head of Lucas Entertainment announced on his website that he is going to start taking groups of tourists to Israel. Lucas writes: “It is no secret that Israel is one of my favorite places in the entire world, and I travel there at least twice every year to visit my favorite parties, restaurants, historical monuments, beaches, resorts, and most importantly, all of the close friends and wonderful people I have met throughout the course of my travels. What I love about Israel is that it is extremely modern while maintaining such an amazing and diverse sense of history: You can be in urban Tel Aviv, one of the most gay-friendly cities on earth, surrounded by skyscrapers, and then drive 40 minutes to ancient Jerusalem and see craftsmanship and architecture that is over 2,000 years old. It is incredible! Although I am uncut, I’m 100 percent Jewish. I was born to a Jewish mother and a Jewish Father (his name is Bregman—can’t get more Jewish that). I’ve been exposed to anti-Semitism in Russia, and so, I’ve always had a warm place for Israel in my heart (and groin, have you ever seen those Israeli men?). It makes me happy to think it has a warm place in its heart for me." Lucas promises this will not be your typical tourist’s look at Israel – evidenced by his description of the tour’s planned trip to Gaash Beach. “This is the premiere clothing-optional beach in Tel-Aviv known only to insiders. You can feel free to lie in the sun as nude as you’d like, enjoy the ocean, or feel free to watch any number of hot guys have sex up and down the shore! I have traveled all around the world and never encountered a beach like this one.” Launching the end of May 2010, the inaugural two-week tour brings visitors on an extensive journey through the breathtaking nation of Israel, personally accompanied by Michael Lucas. Lucas has partnered with top experts in the Israeli tourism industry to contract the best amenities for the trip, including licensed guides and luxury hotels. The premiere group will visit notable historic sites, numerous restaurants, beaches, and resorts, along with several other locations that provide for the experience of a lifetime. Total cost of the trip is $4,799

Virgin Unveils New SpaceShipTwo 'The Sexiest Spacheship Ever'

virgin_airlineSir Richard Branson unveiled the newest spaceship in the Virgin Galactic fleet, the SpaceShipTwo, yesterday. With a Hollywood-type premier, guests eagerly waited in an unusual Mojave Desert rain to get a glimpse of the new ship that promises to take passengers out of Earth's atmosphere by 2011.
According to the Guardian:
As Britain's most visible showman-entrepreneur unveiled his latest creation in the southern California desert last night – a giant fantasy of a flying machine that promises to take tourists out of the Earth's atmosphere into outer space as soon as 2011 – everything was in place for the aviation equivalent of a glitzy Hollywood premiere. Branson had the klieg lights, the sound system booming eerie space-age music, and the hospitality tents doling out free champagne and vodka cocktails right on the runway of the Mojave air and space port. He even had "celebrity" guests – everyone from Victoria Principal, of Dallas fame, to Arnold Schwarzenegger, the governor of California – and countless stunning young women draped across the arms of tech geeks, engineering whizzes and assorted zillionaires, some of whom had flown halfway across the world to watch a little piece of history in the making.

Gay-friendly Las Vegas, Nevada 'Sin-City' Is On A Winning Streak!

vegas01There's always been something a little bit queer about Las Vegas, dating to the drag queens who performed at the Kit Kat Club in the 1940s and a bedazzled Liberace becoming the city's highest-paid entertainer when he appeared at the Riviera Hotel in 1955. But as Las Vegas tossed in the chips on its gamblers-only image in favor of sleek luxury hotels and award-winning chefs, gay travelers started paying more attention -- and the marketing blitz to woo them ignited. Resorts created gay-specific ad campaigns, Krave, the Strip's first gay nightclub, opened in fall 2004 and a gay pool party at Luxor launched this summer. Yet, the gay scene still pulsates largely beneath Sin City's skin -- in the homoerotic tangos of Cirque du Soleil's acrobats or the stage spectacles of gay icons like Cher and Bette Midler -- rather than blazing in rainbow lights on the Strip. The city's lone all-gay guesthouse and most of its gay bars are tucked away from Las Vegas Boulevard. LVSignLas Vegas is the rare resort town to make frequent appearances in top 10 lists of the most popular U.S. gay destinations without having a highly visible gayborhood. Rashad Robinson, who oversees the Advertising Media Program for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, says the city is savvy about showcasing its diverse attractions and activities to appeal to the diversity of the gay community. In the past 18 months, Las Vegas has hosted major gay events ranging from the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association's annual convention to the Bigger Vegas/Convergence 2009 gathering, which brought 800 plus-sized gay travelers and their admirers to town. WHERE TO STAY   Most of the major Strip hotels are gay-friendly, but the light-infused, 2,034-suite Encore, the 2009 addition to the Wynn resort complex (styled under the discriminating eye of Wynn's gay executive vice president of design, Roger Thomas), gets bonus points for launching the first on-site LGBT concierge service. At the opposite end of the Strip, Mandalay Bay, aka ``Mandalay Gay,'' and its sexy, casino-free sibling, THEhotel, have maintained their gay cred. THEhotel's opening in 2003 heralded the Strip shift from adult-Disney-style theme resorts to modern luxury, as epitomized in its Zen-cool, gay-popular spa, the bathhouse. A planned room makeover should give Luxor a much-needed aesthetic boost, but in the interim, the more affordable choice has hosted recurring gay parties in its bordello-style CatHouse resto-lounge and its adults-only pool. The men-only Blue Moon Resort is a friendly, cruisy and casual alternative for those seeking an all-gay stay off the Strip (rental car recommended); day passes available. DINING While there's no one spot where gay diners congregate on the Strip, it's comfortable cozying up to a same-sex partner wherever a marquee-name chef showcases his or her dishes -- the seismic shift from $3.95 buffets to haute cuisine clearly raised the gay comfort level. Some noteworthy examples: MGM's L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon, the more relaxed (though still pricey), Michelin-star restaurant from the French wunderkind, with an open kitchen and a particularly attractive staff; and Border Grill at Mandalay Bay, which showcases the environmentally conscious Mexican creations of Food Network's Too Hot Tamales, Mary Sue Milliken and out lesbian Susan Feniger. Paris' Mon Ami Gabi café attracts gay brunch fans with its build-your-own Bloody Mary bar and Strip-side view of Bellagio's dancing fountain. NIGHTLIFE   Krave_0020rsFrom Cher to showgirls, the gay-flavored entertainment options are endless. Cirque du Soleil's Zumanity, known for its same-sex pairings, recently launched a commitment ceremony package in honor of Nevada's new domestic partnership legislation; it includes a ceremony in Luxor's wedding chapel, a stay at New York-New York and show tickets. The only gay bar option on the Strip -- and it's a good one -- is Krave, a mega-club reminiscent of South Beach's gay heyday; the small lounge next door holds the lesbian party CandyBar on Saturdays. Sin City Q Socials hosts a martini reception for gay professionals every Tuesday at rotating locations. A cluster of off-Strip gay clubs sit among the somewhat seedy strip malls at Paradise Road and Naples Drive, aka ``The Fruit Loop.'' Top weekend draw is Piranha/8 ½ Lounge, a sprawling multi-room space that attracts an ethnically diverse mix of locals and tourists (only out-of-towners pay cover). Gipsy, which hosts drag shows; Levi-leather bar Buffalo; and Freezone, a dive bar with the largest lesbian following of the bunch, are within walking distance. DAYTIME ADVENTURES   las_vegas_skylineIn response to Las Vegas's exploding (but hetero-dominated) adults-only pool party scene, Sunkissed Sundays brought a gay pool party to Luxor this year, and is scheduled to return to the Strip in May 2010. Gay-friendly Pink Jeep Tours transport small groups into the nearby natural beauty of Red Rock Canyon, the Valley of Fire or the Grand Canyon. Longtime lesbian tour operator Babs Daitch, with the aid of gay historian Dennis McBride, created the ``Gays Gone By'' tour through Las Vegas's queer history. Available for groups of four or more, its multiple stops include Snick's Place, the city's oldest gay bar, the Liberace Museum and the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada.

Go Philadelphia

airlinephillyGet Your History Straight and Your Nightlife Gay. Looking for creative ways to travel in a recession? Southwest Airlines Co. has added a page on its travel Web site promoting flights to gay-friendly Philadelphia. The site enables fliers to combine airfare with 11 hotels known as gay-friendly in the City of Brotherly Love.
"Airlines are beginning to recognize that there is a major presence in the gay community in travel," Philadelphia Gay News publisher Mark Segal said. "Market research shows that gays travel 21/2 times more for leisure than the average family man or woman."
Philadelphia's second-busiest airline has teamed up with the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corp. in a new $100,000 campaign - including online and print advertising - pitched at gay and lesbian vacationers. Since 2003, GPTMC has spent $300,000 a year urging gay and lesbian travelers to come to Philadelphia: "Get Your History Straight and Your Nightlife Gay." southwestThe effort has paid off, said the group's vice president of communications, Jeff Guaracino. The city is the 13th-most-visited U.S. destination by gay travelers, he said. Before 2006, it was not in the top 20. Community Marketing Inc., a San Francisco company, estimates that gay travelers spend $233 a day, nearly twice as much as other overnight visitors. Gay and lesbian tourists, who tend to be well-educated with above-average incomes, spend $70 billion a year in the United States on travel, research shows. Gays, who are less likely to have obligations of children, often have more discretionary income. Many companies and cities are competing for the gay travel dollar. Among airlines, American, Delta, JetBlue, Air Canada, Alaska, and Southwest all do marketing or have gay travel Web sites, with information about destinations of special interest to gay tourists. Southwest broached a marketing partnership after learning about GPTMC's tourism campaign.
"We just thought it was the perfect opportunity," said Jena Atchison, segment marketing manager for Southwest. "Philadelphia was a new market for us. We were getting well-established with a lot of flights out of Philadelphia." The airline began service here in 2004.
IGay03-bn recent years, Southwest and GPTMC spent $125,000 promoting Philadelphia as diverse and gay-friendly. The airline launched its Web page targeting gay and lesbian business and leisure travelers to Philadelphia on Monday. While Southwest also tailors marketing to Hispanic, African American, and Asian travelers, the city-specific Web page is its first, Atchison said. Ads will begin next week and run through June in regional and local gay and lesbian newspapers and Web sites in Chicago; Los Angeles; Denver; Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and Columbus, Ohio.
"No airline has ever before partnered with a destination and said, 'Go to gay Philly, gay San Francisco, or Florida,' " Guaracino said. "Southwest is taking it to the next level."
Segal, of the Philadelphia Gay News, said Philadelphia was "the most gay-friendly city in America other than maybe San Francisco." "The gay-rights struggle started here," he said. "The first public demonstration for gay rights was in Philadelphia on July 4, 1965."
Southwest hopes potential customers who see the online ads will click immediately to Southwest's new Web page to see specifics about fares, flights, Philadelphia, and gay-friendly hotels. What does "gay-friendly" mean? Where same-sex couples can register in a hotel without quizzical looks, insulting questions, or rude behavior, Guaracino said. "Any specific cultural touch point we can do to talk to the customer is imperative," Atchison said. "When market research shows that 90 percent of gay and lesbian travelers go out of their way to support businesses that actively market to them, it's important." Rock The Carriage

montreal

A humorous 45-second video that suggests but doesn't actually depict daytime sex between two male calèche drivers in Old Montreal has attracted more than 4,500 views on YouTube - and a single emailed complaint calling it "inappropriate," according to the tourism-promotion agency behind it.

The English-language ad, titled Dave Does Montreal, is part of an online advertising campaign with a $50,000 budget launched Oct. 20 by Tourism Montreal and expected to last one month.

In the video, a young male narrator stands in the foreground, extolling the city's architecture, cuisine, chic boutique hotels, ambience and other attributes.

While he talks, it becomes apparent some sort of vigorous, rhythmic activity is taking place in one of two horse-drawn carriages parked behind him.

About two-thirds of the way into the ad, the physical rocking stops and two men emerge from the calèche. One is clearly dishevelled, with his shirt askew; he gets into the driver's seat of the second calèche. The other man adjusts his pants then lowers the caléche roof, which had been shielding their activity.

[MEDIA not found]

The ad is part of an initiative that has helped boost the annual number of gay and lesbian visitors to Montreal in the past decade to an estimated 450,000 from 300,000, said Pierre Bellerose, Tourism Montreal's vice-president of research, development and public relations. Such tourists account for six per cent of the total 7.5 million visitors a year, he said.
