Get Ready for 'U.S. Mr. Gay' Tonight

Ever been in a room full of shrieking gay men and muscular dudes sporting barely-there red Speedos? Every Saturday? Well, get ready to take it to a whole new level when the 2011 U.S. Mr. Gay Competition strides into Philadelphia at 9 p.m. Tonnight Saturday, November 13th at the city’s thumping Voyeur nightclub. You already know that Philly is one of the most popular destinations for LGBT travelers, and I’m willing to bet that a stageful of American’s next top hotties in swimsuits will only further this notion. I’d even wager that Philly’s set to assume the title of the gay capitol of the United States after the weekend of November 13th! Let that Philadelphia freedom ring out loud!
As you might expect, the U.S. Mr. Gay contest is a sexy all-male version of a traditional beauty pageant, and, like those ladies who win Trump’s Miss USA contest move on to the big global pageant stage, the winning U.S. Mr. Gay will go on to compete for the International Mr. Gay title. The event will be stocked-full of celebrity judges, including: Gossip columnist, Michael Musto, celeb stylist and reality TV star, David Evangelista, four-time Emmy-award winning TV producer, Terence Noonan, Paper Magazine’s style guru Mickey Boardman, and hosting the event will be Sirius OutQ radio star, Frank DeCaro and drag personality, Brittany Lynn.
“Each judge is incredibly accomplished, they know how to recognize talent, and they understand what separates ‘good’ contestants from the very ‘best,’ said Bruce Yelk, president and owner of Nightlifegay.com, which is producing the event.
Mr. Gay USA meet-and-greet, Q Lounge, 1234 Locust St., 8 tonight, $10, 215-732-1800, www.qphilly.com. Competition, Voyeur, 1221 St. James St., 9 p.m. tomorrow (meet-and-greet, 8 p.m.), $10, 215-735-5772, www.voyeurnightclub.com.

D.C. Votes 4 Gay Marriage!

washington-dc-cherry-blossoms-52

The nation's capital would recognize gay marriages performed in other states under a bill unanimously approved Tuesday by the city council. The 12-0 vote came the same day that Vermont became the fourth state to legalize same-sex marriage, joining Connecticut, Massachusetts and Iowa. Before becoming law, the legislation requires a final vote next month by the District of Columbia Council. The bill must then be reviewed by Congress, which has final say over the city's laws. Lawmakers say Tuesday's unanimous vote brings the city a step closer to eventually allowing same-sex marriages to be performed in Washington. Gay couples married in other states are currently recognized as domestic partners when they move to the city. "This is the march toward human rights and equality," said David Catania, one of two openly gay D.C. Council members. "This is not the march toward special rights. This is the equal march and that march is coming here." Council member Jim Graham, who also is gay, said the measure was a matter of "basic fairness." The district passed a law in 1992 recognizing domestic partnerships, which extended medical decision-making powers and other benefits to same-sex couples. But Congress restricted the city from spending its own funds to implement the law until 2002. Catania has indicated he plans to bring up a bill legalizing same-sex marriage in the district this year. But some activists have expressed concerns that such a move could trigger a backlash from Congress at a time when the city is trying to win a full voting rights. New York also recognizes same-sex marriages performed elsewhere but hasn't allowed them in the state. Souce: Associated Press

Don't vote?  Now, what do you mean  Don't vote?

The video also points out that 537 votes determined the 2000 election. "There's more Baldwin brothers than that," Ryan Reynolds jokes. The celebrities then share all the reasons why they're voting. A few regular citizens add their own reasons, including a soldier who says, "If you're not voting for yourself, vote for people like me." The clip then lists a Web address where viewers can find their local polls. And, just like in the original, the celebs wait around while viewers send the clip to five friends. Since its debut on October 1, the original "5 Friends" PSA has been viewed more than 5 million times, according to a press release. The statement also claims that major voter-registration sites — including Google, Rock the Vote and Declare Yourself — have reported that more than 300,000 new voters registered due to the video alone.
